Check Out Miles McMillan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles McMillan

Hi Miles, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We’ve all been friends through playing music together, our other bands had been playing shows for over a decade. Once Covid hit and everything shut down, our guitarist Rafe pitched starting a new band that was going to be just a studio project. We got together August of 2020 and started writing songs together, it was fun to just go at our own pace, eventually we put so much time into the songs that we decided we wanted to be more than a studio band and play shows eventually once entertainment started coming back. We played our first show last September, and have been steadily playing shows and writing new songs and still having a blast!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was definitely a lot of pressure around the time of launching the band. Part of the fun of the beginning was there were no outside expectations, or eyes watching what our next move was going to be. Which itself isn’t a problem but I think having that control for almost 3 years of going at our own speed and then giving it up was nerve wracking the closer it came. But as far as internally goes, I’d say no real struggles for us, we all are very in tune with each other and how we all operate. Everyone pulls their weight and contributes different things that keep the road as smooth as possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My name is Miles, I am the vocalist of Current Comfort! I’ve personally been playing music in bands since around 2008, I am originally from San Angelo, which is west Texas, until I moved to Austin in the spring of 2019. I have always played bass, which when this band originally started to form, I was going to play bass and sing but moved to just vocals. I am so proud of everything we’ve done as a band so far, it’s hard to pick one thing! I’d say our first show we ever played stands out. We pushed so hard for it to be a hit and it paid off, so many friends were there to support and it is a night I will never forget.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risks have to be taken at the end of the day. While I would say I personally can be passive, I think being in this band has really shown me that there really is nothing to gain by staying that way. When I look at past projects and choices made, I wished I had taken more risks and tried new things, so I’m making it an effort to keep an open mind with things that may seem risky. We have played shows with other artists that may seem a bit out of our realm, but when you do that you play to new people, new faces that might not have ever seen you otherwise. Having people come up to us after and say how much they enjoyed our music even though they’d never heard of us before is a wonderful feeling, it shows that the risk is worth it, and we are doing something right. I think risk is important for a lot of reasons, it is so much harder to improve if you do the same things and make the safest choices.
