Check Out Nitya Jain’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nitya Jain.

Nitya Jain

Hi Nitya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I am a commercial and editorial photographer specializing in food, beverage, and hospitality. Born and raised in India, I was surrounded by color, chaos, and culture at all times. As a trained architect, I explore the world of textures, composition, and light in my work. I moved to the United States almost 15 years ago and now call Austin home. Working through the many conventional rungs of 9-5, I quickly realized that working as an entrepreneur and creative was really where my heart was. I started a blog called Beyond Curry in 2017 documenting recipes from my childhood in pictures and words, which quickly morphed into my photography business as it is today.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an adventure with highs and lows. Being South Asian, female, and new to a place has been part of the learning curve, especially since we have moved from California to Washington to Texas, making a pit stop in Chicago! Navigating the freelance world is always challenging. I have been fortunate and continue to be grateful for a supportive community, family, and friends that keep it real.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer specializing in food, beverage, product, and lifestyle. Color, texture, and context are essential to me. My work is vibrant, crave-able and tactile. The visual stories I capture in my work are inspired by culture, people, and flavor.

Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
Ask. What is the worst that can happen? Be open, honest, and eager to learn from peers and mentors. Networking is vital; always be a cheerleader for yourself and the people around you. I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around.
