Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Bockhorn
Hi Paige, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Here’s the birth story of Plant Powered Athlete – ATX.
Back in 2017, I had just finished college and was getting back into the swing of life. I had been vegan for only a couple years at that time.I was also getting back into running more consistently. I had a few vegan friends who had no interest in running. I had running friends who had no interest in eating vegan food with me. I figured there was no way I was the only vegan runner here in Austin. That’s when I happened to stumble across a vegan running Facebook group. It had been dormant for a couple years. I started making events where we meet at a vegan friendly eatery and run some miles in that neighborhood. Now we do this all over town! My first event, no one showed up. Now we get a solid 30 people to a Sunday morning event!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it’s been incredibly easy! I have so much support. During my journey of being a group run leader, the first lesson I learned was that I cannot please everyone. My events are either too early or too late 😉
I think I face similar struggles as anyone else who organizes social groups. Luckily, I have a solid team who’s willing to support me along the way!
Plant Powered Athlete is so cherished and valuable to most of us!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work in pet care. I petsit within central Austin. I also walk dogs and do pet visits during the day.
It makes for excellent cross training for my running 🙂
I am my own boss and make my own hours!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I absolutely adore our running community here in Austin! You can find a running club any day of the week. The run community here is so inclusive. I have made all my best friendships and connections through this community! We are all here for each other and supporting each other. It’s really amazing!
What I like least about the city is getting around town. I have to give myself plenty of time to make it to an evening run. Parking is also becoming sparse. Many times, I have to leave a run club early because of parking restrictions.
Pricing:
- All of our runs are free to attend
- I always give our Sunday morning eatery a heads up we’ll be coming. Please tip them extra for going above and beyond for us
