Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Mills.
Hi Robert, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Wichita Falls, TX and grew up there I was a very active child going up was always outside but as soon as I heard my mom’s whistle I knew to come home. In school I was very active in my school marching band in freshman year we made state! I was also active in fixing technology. I am the oldest of 3 kids, so I had a huge role. I helped my dad and uncle in his construction company for many years and that is where I learned the importance of business and hard working. It was then I thought I could be a grown up, make my own decisions and took a more difficult path of wrong choices than others. After a struggle with drugs and the “easy” money, I got in trouble. At the time I was devastated! Later, it turns out getting in trouble was the largest blessing I could have ever received
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
ALOT of motivation! I moved with my mom here in Lampasas to get away from the temptation of an easier life. I started working in construction again. Another difficult time as I was learning how to live a “normal” life all the while navigating the judicial systems requirements. Then after a year I met Ashley, she is my reason for EVERYTHING! She helped guide me through the good & bad times if it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t know where I would be now. I also must credit my sister Melissa and others, because they gave me an opportunity to start a new career at around age 33 as an electrician. 6000 of OTJ hours and many sleepiness nights to earn my way to Master Electrician. Now, we have 3 beautiful kids together and I am all about being home and making time to watch them grow and become successful. Time moves so fast It was hard and seemed impossible some days, but with faith and an amazing support system it all fell into place by the grace of God. My kids push me a lot as well because I want to show them that to get and have what you want in life you must work hard. My kids love coming to work with me when they can. I encourage them to do what makes them happy. I sure hope at least they take advantage of the wisdom, experiences, and guidance I can provide.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Electrical is very important, if you don’t think about what you’re doing someone’s house or life could be at risk. I take pride in what I do because I treat everyone as I would my family. Alot of times, I try to plan for future needs not just the minimum I give my advice in what I would do and why I would do it a certain way. There are many configurations in every design. My biggest moto “no offense but I hope I never see you again” and everyone laughs and that makes me feel good, because they usually call me back out for another project. Be honest, things are not always going to work out for either party as intended and that’s okay! Communicate and find a favorable solution for everyone. Be understanding, listen and put yourself in other situations.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I never think that I am better then someone else in this business. There are several ways to accomplish a goal. If they need help, I am there without a doubt! Need advice I’ll help you the best I can! I take pride in my work and do it to the best of my knowledge. Most of all be aware of your capabilities, don’t be too proud to ask for help, communication is key in almost everything we all do!
