Hi Rose, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for Rose Burkhardt Jewelry, in general, began as a young girl full of dreams. Often, friends would comment on how cute my outfits were, yet they were surprised when they visited me with how few clothes I owned. I would always tell them, “It doesn’t matter if you wear the same outfit over & over; just switch up your jewelry & no one will ever know!” I still live & design by that statement. I started my jewelry business when my little guy was just three years old. He is now eight years old! In my previous business, I handmade baby clothing, which allowed me to dress him in the cutest baby wear ever. Then, I slowly transitioned to hand-making jewelry, my true passion, at the encouragement of a dear friend who also used to make baby clothes. Over the years, this has become my full-time love that has seen so many unique experiences:
- 1000+ local shows over the last four years
- Set up at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
- Featured at a SXSW event in Austin, Texas
- Nationwide conferences in Salt Lake City, Utah
Little by little, this business has grown from a one-woman show to a close friend jumping on board, then my hubby, Brandon, jumping on board & now, starting the last holiday season, we have seven amazing women working with us! My passion is to see women just like me succeed. Jewelry is empowering in a way that only each of us knows the way it makes us sparkle. Handmade by women like us adds an element of confidence that takes us to another level.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I keep a favorite quote on my jewelry-making work desk: One day, you will look back on days like this and be glad you did not give up. The number of times I have referred back to that quote to get me through the day or yet another challenge is not even conceivable to count. There have been so many, sweat, tears & yes, blood. There has been crying curled up in the fetal position in the shower over my first business partnership falling apart. I have learned that each struggle, challenge, and time you have to let go of what you thought was the way things were makes way for something better to come along. Luck hasn’t been something I ever believed in. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Each challenge prepares me for the next opportunity in a way I never imagined I needed.

Austin is my home and has my heart. We’ve been here for a while before the Frost Tower was built! We enjoy the live music, the outdoor adventures, the cool springs, the local creative scene, & the insane & humbling huge support of small businesses. Most of all, the friendliness of the people is what keeps us here year after year. You can move to Austin and make a lifelong friend within a day. Only a few other cities hold that many opportunities for relationships that matter. Austin has had some growing pains & those are a challenge, just like anything else in life, but I’d be super hard-pressed to say there’s anything I don’t like about this wonderful city we call home.
