Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabarish KS.
Hi Sabarish, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I hail from the state of Tamilnadu, which is in the southern part of India. From my childhood days, I had a passion for mechanical functions that I see around me. I was always eager to know about the mechanical aspects of machines as well as the vast area of robotics.
I used to modify toys and play with them at the time. I used to rip the motor out of the car and tape it to cardboard to make new imaginative toys. However, I discovered that the taped motors are not permanent, they tend to come out after a while, and they wobble at high speeds. So I asked my father if he could design a body that would fit the motors. and other circuits into that design directly. He claimed that a perfect body for the flimsy robot is possible but that it would be prohibitively expensive. I inquired as to why it is so expensive; is a plastic shell worth more than a thousand dollars? Then my father explained the process of making plastic parts and why they were so expensive. So this was the time when I was looking for a way to make plastic parts cheaper.
My passion for mechanical engineering grew from early childhood as my grandfather and father are from the mechanical field on TVS, which gave me no scope for rethinking my program for graduation. I had just one program in my mind and that was Mechanical Engineering. I truly enjoyed my time at my College and my four years there were packed with a lot of innovation, development and gaining advanced knowledge. My Four-year long study of Mechanical engineering offered strong fundamentals in subjects such as Engineering Mathematics, Basic & Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass transfer, Basics of Project management, Material science, Dynamics, Structural Analysis, etc.
As the days passed, I came across 3d printing which is a rapid prototyping tool that helps to print a 3d object with plastic materials with the input of design. The drawback was the initial cost of the Machine is way more costly than the traditional method of producing parts. At the end of the 6th semester, my college Bought a 3d printer and I was so eager to get my hands on It. But they don’t allow anyone other than the technician to touch the machine because It is a highly valuable instrument.
So After Long research, I decided to build One By my Self. And In my final year, I started designing Of Building a 3d Printed from scratch with my friend and we build a complete working printer. It was our first printer. But It is not stable as the other printer. To increase the stability, it required metal components or 3d printed parts for the 3d printer like the RepRap project. I need a printer and finalize to bought one with the intern money. I owned my first functional 3d printer. The ENDER 3 is a legend that every enthusiast has as their first 3D printer, it has a vast community for helping and troubleshooting and it is the cheapest machine ever made.
Today, I started a startup organization named ‘Rozzprints3D’ which is successfully running now. We Create awareness of the power of 3d printing and its use of it in day-to-day life. We also 3d print parts for prototyping for young students at a low cost. We have a separate designing team for designing customized parts as per the customer’s requirement.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, my path is not a smooth road, I come across facing many issues before and after starting my company. But I am gaining experience with it.
“If you find your path is smooth then you may be going in wrong direction”.
Money:
My only issue was a lack of funds. I was so strong that I didn’t need my parents’ assistance. So worked as an intern and did some freelancing which gave me money for my first 3D printer. I have a basic printer Ender3 V2, which is less expensive than a phone and has fewer features compared to others 3d printers. But I am working hard that I could upgrade my startup.
Awareness:
Because rapid printing technology is new to my area, there is little awareness among the general public. So, using social media tools, I’m doing my best to help people and students understand the 3D printer and its benefits.
Expensive:
As an expert knows, 3d printing is costlier and some people have a mindset of comparing it with normal plastics. For example, If I made them a custom clamp for their closet they are ready to pay the same cost compared with the other clamps available compared with the market.
Time-consuming:
3D printing takes longer than traditional printing, which was a minor disadvantage. Using multiple printers rather than just one saves time. The technology for 3D printing is improving, and we can expect more advancements in the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It was during my post-course completion period that my interest grew in the 3D printing area. I learned that this technology is now widely used in sectors like prototyping, construction, medicine, electronics, automobile, space research and many more. I had always been passionate to gain some real-time Industry experience after my studies. I was much interested in the field of 3D printing and hence I tried to earn professional experience in this domain. For the last two years, I made use of many available sources to gain professional experience in the 3D printing field. Further, I initiated a startup named ‘Rozzprints3D’ which is successfully running now and more interest grew in the 3D printing area. I use this technology in sectors like prototyping, construction, medicine, electronics, automobile, space research, and many more. We also help and guide the young generation, How to be experts in 3D printing technology.
As I researched deep on the topic, Robotics is a field that makes use of 3D printing as well as core mechanical engineering profiles. As I am more interested in robotics and automation also. I have developed a Tracking Robot using raspberry IR sensors which can also work over SSH and also a Robotic Arm with raspberry pi, stepper and servo motors and some 3d printed parts. Presently, I am developing a robot named SpotMicroAI. It is an AI integrated Quadruped robot powered by ROS and AI. I am involved in developing this robot with the SpotMicro development community on Github. In current, I am planning to do my masters in the united kingdom in robotics and automation.
The Key That sets me apart from others is that I am developing skills in multiple sectors like mechanical engineering, designing, 3d printing, Robotics and automation. I have the ability to think from these perspectives during the development of a project and make it more efficient.
I am most proud that I am developing a community of 3dprinting enthusiasts in Tamil Nadu by helping and guiding the young generation to bring awareness to this 3D printing technology.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
RozzPrints3D welcomes supporters from people, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who like 3d printing and to support our work.
We are making awareness to the young minds about the power of 3d printing. By conducting seminars and workshops. If people have design files, they can make use of my service. I have an Instagram page where I interact with my followers and post tips and tricks and pics of me making 3d printing and some random stuff about 3d printing.
People can also support on Instagram and share with their friends who are also interested in 3d printing. In the near future am, I have the idea of starting a youtube channel dedicated to 3d printing in my own language as many were requesting me for it. Very useful if I get support like sponsorship will be useful for testing more 3d painters and hands-on different machines. Help the enthusiastic to get an idea of the product.
