Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Siller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has always been a part of my life. It’s something I was naturally drawn to from a young age, and that interest eventually led me to study it as my major in college.
Everything shifted when I had my children. Becoming a parent made me see the importance of documenting real moments—how quickly time moves, how easily the small details can be forgotten, and how valuable it is to have photographs that feel honest and meaningful. That’s when I realized I wanted to pursue photography full time.
I wanted other families to have images that show them the way they really are, the beauty they might not always notice in themselves. I wanted parents to actually be in the photos, not just the ones taking them. I wanted to capture the stages of life that pass in the blink of an eye.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of watching many of my clients grow up in front of my camera, just like my own kids have. It’s one of the best parts of what I do—documenting people over time and giving them something to look back on that feels genuine.
Whether it’s families, seniors, beauty, head shots or weddings, I love capturing the moments that make up a life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge has always been myself. Self-doubt and fear of the unknown have a way of showing up whenever you put your work—and yourself—out there. Fortunately, I have an incredibly supportive husband and kids who remind me to keep going. Over time, I’ve learned to stay curious, keep learning, and keep trying new things, even when they feel uncomfortable.
One of the best parts of this industry is the community behind it. On both the business side and the artistic side of photography, there are always people willing to share what they know. Surrounding myself with that kind of support and knowledge has helped me grow more than anything else.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in photographing people. Families, children, seniors, couples, beauty portraits, headshots—no matter who’s in front of my camera, the process is the same. My goal is to help people relax and feel like themselves so their photos reflect who they really are and how they want to be seen.
There’s almost always someone who’s nervous or a family member who didn’t want to take pictures in the first place. It can feel like a whole ordeal. My job is to make the experience easy and fun, and that comfort always shows in the final portraits.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest cheerleader has always been my husband, Mark. There was a point when I thought about walking away from photography, and instead of letting me quit, he bought me a new camera and told me to keep doing what makes me happy. When I was nervous before my very first sessions—what feels like a lifetime ago—he would leave me little notes of encouragement.
My children and friends have been just as supportive. And honestly, every time my kids tell someone, “My mom is a photographer,” I still feel a little spark of pride.
