Today we’d like to introduce you to Shade.
Hi Shade, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Spawning from a previous project, shade.tx is an alternative hardcore band from the ATX scene. Our songs carry the weight of hurt memories, heavy breakdowns and ethereal sounds. We found each other through our love of music and appreciation of expressing through sounds rather than words, and choosing to have music be our voice. After spending time in another project of ours, the four of us had felt our music become more of a compromise, an appeasement, rather than the words we had wanted to express. After rediscovering ourselves, we found our voices through music, expression through performance, and connection through pain.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not, we had a moment of weakness and loss of trust amongst each other a little over a year ago, before shade had formed. We were still together with a previous member in a project before shade, and had developed a habit of writing and creating music that we thought we enjoyed, but felt held back and never spoke of it. This led to a long time of silent mistrust and appeasement for hopes that it would solve itself. After we had parted ways with our previous member, we were able to truly write music we had been wanting for as long as we had been together. Since our rediscoverence, we can say with confidence that it has been more of a smooth road. We are already incredibly proud and excited to share our creations with everyone, and even more so excited to see where our road ahead leads us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Emotional performances, words of pain, and sounds of even more pain. We write and perform our words through music, expressing pain and processing emotions through the sounds of our instruments. We live to perform live, and show anyone who comes how we express ourselves, so don’t be a stranger and come see us!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The city of Austin has birthed and raised an incredible Hardcore scene, one of which we love and live in. Without the music of the people we perform with, two-stepping, mosh pits or energy that feeds the scene, we would not be here, or at the very least, anything remotely who we are today. We owe a lot of our sound and energy to the bands in the scene, and the city that supports live music, even for up-and-coming bands.
On the contrary, we despise the hot weather here, it makes for a troubling time practicing, as the heat drains us of our energy and makes it hard to play.
