Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Arrington
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Round Rock Market Days was created 14 years ago when someone asked me “why doesn’t Round Rock have a market days”? I met with the City and it became a dream come true! We have a monthly market in downtown Historic Round Rock on the first Saturday of each month; March – December. Each market has live music and wonderful local artisans showcasing their wares- I truly believe in keeping it local and giving customers an opportunity to find that one of a kind; special gift for someone – and many times they find something for themselves! I love supporting local – and this is such a great way to support our community. We showcase local nonprofits; community fundraising and so much more!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Round Rock Market Days started out in downtown RR in the streets; we closed off the streets and it was great!! The City moved us to a new location for the next 3 years and it was difficult as we were not in downtown; in the center of town so foot traffic to the markets were not great.
Prete Plaza was built and I was able to move the market back to downtown in the beautiful plaza and the market has thrived!! The downtown restaurants love us too as it definitely brings more people to downtown to have lunch and just enjoy the day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For about 24 years I was in leadership roles in the high tech industry; left the field to go into recruiting; then when COVID hit and there weren’t any jobs to recruit for I moved into a role that was very foreign to me; but found out I love is my Independent Health/Life and Medicare agent; I truly love helping people and this new role has allowed me to do just that! I also am an organizer and I love organizers shows; whether it’s Round Rock Market Days, Christmas in July, Crafting Convention or Sleigh Bell Lane I love to work with vendors to put on the best shows in Round Rock.
I think my leadership and recruiting experience has truly helped me navigate and build relationships not only with the City, but with vendors and customers.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I believe God used COVID-19 to push me out of my comfort zone; to truly lean to Him when I was in unchartered waters trying to navigate my next career move. When I received a call about looking into helping others with their insurance needs things see to fall into place; I felt a peace and knew this was the direction He was moving me towards.
