Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Bourque. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Small-town mountain boy bred over the last 6 years in Austin, TX, Skyler Bourque is on a journey to find his own truth and self-expression. Losing his dad when he was 15, Skyler had to grow up quickly and try to find his feet without the help of a father. His dad was a man who lost a battle to depression; a battle he dealt with for a long time. He was a brilliant man, that because of his limitations, was never able to leave his mark.
Skyler’s artistic journey is a representation of both the desire to be seen and heard, as well as the hope to let his father live on through his creative expression. To heal oneself gives the ability to heal others, and through music, Skyler hopes that there is someone out there that will connect to his story and find healing the way he has been able to.
Set to release a Jazz/Hip Hop EP by the end of the year, Skyler’s music is a fusion of jazz, folk, blues and funk. He is a producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a unique approach to playing guitar, and with a warm smoky piano playing inspired by early jazz. Currently working on bringing together a compilation of original material on life’s tribulations and triumphs, “Born and Raised” will be an album to be ready by mid-2023.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The mountains will work themselves out, it’s the valleys you got to learn how to deal with. The biggest hurdle for me was moving across the country alone and with no family or friends.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the general manager at a fine Italian restaurant, specializing in wine and cocktails, and have a home studio that I work out of. I’d say one thing that sets me apart is my ability to adapt. I am a very adaptable creature.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The energy here is second to none. The apartment management here is second to all.
