Today we’d like to introduce you to The Chicken Boys.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Chicken Boys started as a three-piece band who aimed to bring the jam-band feel to punk rock music. They soon expanded and added a Keys/Sax player to take their sound to the next level. The Chicken Boys currently have an album out which features songs from their previous era, but are excited to be working on a new full-length LP that will release in 2026.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding our groove right before the pandemic was a tough spot to be in. After things began to normalize, we had to find a new bass player and were lucky to get an amazing fit. We started playing live again and resumed bringing that extended jam/improvisational element to a punk rock genre that lacked it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’ve always been big fans of anything under the rock umbrella, which spans so many sub-genres. In this we realized that there were very few examples of bands in the punk and alt rock sphere who incorporated extended jams and improv into their live shows. As fans of both jam bands and punk/alt rock, we naturally combined the two and have a blast creating a sound that’s rather unique. We enjoy crafting a polished product in the studio, but even more so enjoy seeing where those songs go in the midst of a live show.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us is being lucky enough to make music, participate in the community, and share our art with others. We find success everywhere from our practice room, to the stage, to house shows, and feel very grateful to be a part of such a fun music scene here in Austin.
