Check Out Victoria Trevino’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Trevino.

Hi Victoria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My photography journey began when I was five years old and discovered my grandfather’s Polaroid 600 camera (that I still shoot with until this day). I was simply astounded by its instant gratification – immortalizing a fleeting moment and simultaneously watching that same moment develop before my eyes just minutes later felt like magic to me. Twenty-five years later, I still feel that magic every single time I’m able to capture a fleeting moment for one of the most special days of someone’s lives – their wedding day. This love of visual storytelling followed me until my adult life. My Canon AE-1 35mm camera became my number one go-to in high school and it was all I ever photographed with, alongside my grandfather’s Polaroid 600. My friends and I would just continuously shoot roll after roll, drop off the film, and wait excitedly to see our images. In college (I attended Del Mar in Corpus Christi, TX), I learned how to develop my own black and white 35mm film which deepened my already astronomical love for photography, even more. I viewed photography as a pure art – the way you could photograph someone or something and visually tell a story. After photographing my first wedding (my senior year of high school), I knew that wedding photography was something I wanted to pursue since I felt intoxicated by the notion of freezing time through photographs. Specifically, moments that only happen once. Visually telling my couples’ love story through heartfelt, authentic images is an honor that I’ll never be able to shake.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At times, it has been a smooth road. At other times, it has definitely not! I think that pretty much sums up life in general though, haha. One of my struggles has been that as a photographer, I wear so, so many hats. That I truly need to be a Jack (or a Jane – in my case!) of all trades. A lot of people think photographers just show up and snap away, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There are a plethora of things we do behind the scenes that can be very time-consuming. It’s also been a challenge to balance it all. As a mother, wife, and wedding photographer – my plate is definitely full! Like a wedding day timeline, there is so much to piece together to make the perfect puzzle. I’m the kind of person who “goes all in” so I have to constantly ask myself, what is it that I need to prioritize today? Am I also creating enough time to prioritize my mental health? It can be challenging to know my limits and when (and where) I need to slow down; it’s definitely a constant juggle!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a natural light wedding photographer based in Austin, Texas. I help my couples relive their most special, “take-me-back” kind of moments one nostalgic image at a time. My work is often described by my couples as “luminous, vibrant, timeless, authentic, and romantic”. Thanks to my photojournalism background, I specialize in crafting heartfelt, candid imagery that is cherished for years to come as I can anticipate a moment happening from miles away!

What sets me apart from others is that I am whole-heartedly invested in my couples. Like I mentioned earlier, I go all in. I strive to be way more than “just another vendor” to scratch off from their list. I want to know what they’re motivated by, what means the absolute most to them, what they value, etc. I deeply care about creating a connection with them because after all, the photographer is the one that they will spend most of their wedding day alongside with! By creating a connection with my couple, the trust and synergy between us reflect in the photographs and the images are THAT much better because of it.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m currently reading, “The Paradox of Choice – Why More Is Less” by Barry Schwartz. I feel like this has tremendously helped me in my business when it comes to being the expert at guiding my couples with decision-making. There are an incredible amount of choices to make when it comes to all things wedding-related, and if I can help make some of those decisions easy for my couples, I am all for it! I’m always there to guide and help them, and this book has really helped me to do so!
