Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Pursley
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small town with a big family, always dreaming of becoming a hairstylist and owning my own salon, just like my grandmother, who was a hairstylist for over 50 years. But in a place where not many men pursued that path, I saw culinary school as a way to expand my opportunities. Or a “way out” I applied, was accepted, and moved to Austin, Texas, in August 2010.
After graduating culinary school, I realized my true passion was still in cosmetology. Just two weeks later, I enrolled in cosmetology school, and that’s where everything really took off for me. Fast forward to 2018, I fulfilled my lifelong dream by opening Wes Pursley Salon, and I’ve truly loved every minute of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily been the smoothest road. The pivot from culinary school to cosmetology school, just two weeks after graduating, was a bold leap that came with its share of uncertainty and challenges. Moving to a new city, adapting to a completely different industry, and building a business from scratch all required resilience and hard work. Each obstacle, however, has taught me invaluable lessons and helped shape the passion and success I have today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist and the owner of Wes Pursley Salon, where I specialize in creating personalized looks that truly express my clients’ personalities. I also specialize in blonding, extensions & mastering the art of color. My work is about blending artistry with authenticity. I’m known for a keen eye for detail while also making sure every client feels valued.
What sets me apart is my unique journey: coming from a small conservative town with a strong family legacy in hairstyling, I’ve always had a passion for this craft, even when it meant taking an unconventional path. I bring the same passion and resilience that fueled my move to Austin,
I’m most proud of the salon itself – a place that embodies creativity, inclusivity, and hard work. Every transformation I create is a testament to my love for this industry!
How do you define success?
I define success as more than just financial milestones. It’s about the impact I have on my clients. It means creating a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and inspired to express their true selves. Every smile, every moment of confidence restored, and every creative breakthrough is a measure of my success. It’s also about honoring my roots and the legacy of hairstyling in my family, all while pushing the boundaries of creativity. When you look good, you feel good! I make clients look & feel great all day long. Now that’s success!
