Today we’d like to introduce you to Aden Dawit.
Hi, Aden; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like many of us who chose to work in health and wellness, my journey to becoming a functional medicine nutritionist is deeply personal. Growing up, I watched many of my family members struggle with various chronic health conditions, only to be given mystery diagnoses and pill bottles to match. True healing was never offered, and instead, I learned at a young age that illnesses were simply fate, with little recourse for proper healing. I was a healthy-ish kid and never really had many health complaints. However, in 2016, weird and seemingly disconnected symptoms started popping up. I was chronically tired, had horrible allergies, weight loss resistance, borderline anemic, digestive problems, debilitating brain fog, acne, and more. In 2019, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and later on with PCOS. Although it took a while to get these answers, I finally felt relieved to know what was going on with my body. My health struggles propelled me into the realm of holistic health and functional medicine, where I learned how to address my body’s imbalances from a root cause perspective. These symptoms gradually faded away by changing my diet, incorporating bio-individual herbs and supplements, and appropriate lifestyle modifications. Motivated by my journey and the silent suffering of countless others facing mysterious illnesses, I embarked on furthering my education in nutrition and functional medicine. In my private practice, I work with women who want to optimize their health for preconception and pregnancy, work through gut dysfunctions and hormonal imbalances, and calm the inflammation associated with autoimmune diseases. It is truly a passion of mine to help others navigate some of the experiences that I went through. Having a guide who has been in the trenches before, knows where to look, and how to get to a better place of well-being made all the difference for me, and I feel honored to do the same for others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey was most certainly not a smooth ride. As you can imagine, not feeling your best most of the time can take a toll on your personal and professional life. It can be isolating and draining, and I definitely struggled more than I care to admit. However, I feel so truly blessed for the people who I have in my life. Having a strong support system and brilliant colleagues has made a world of difference. In addition, I feel like I can resonate with my clients on such a deep level because I’ve been through what they are going through. I truly believe that God always has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and I have seen that unfold for me time and time again. That is what keeps me hopeful and optimistic.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In my private practice, I work one-on-one with clients to support them on their personal health journeys. We start by doing a DEEP dive into their health timeline, often taking it back to their own births and childhood. We map out when they first started feeling unwell to identify what possible triggers could have been. Then, we discuss testing options that look beyond what basic bloodwork can provide. Once we have the answers, we build a personalized Functional Nutrition and Wellness Plan that emphasizes all aspects of their health, including diet, lifestyle, mental health, stress support, supplements, and other modalities. I am also there holding their hand every step of the way, with monthly Zoom calls and text support until they feel like they are their best selves again. At Bite In Bloom, we support women and families in creating generational health. Women are the backbone of the family unit, and we show up so differently when we are truly nourished physically, mentally, and spiritually. Not only that, but we are now seeing children suffering from modifiable illnesses at younger ages than ever before. It is concerning, but not defeating. Our mission and Bite In Bloom is simple. We nourish women so they can nurture and heal their families.
