Community Highlights: Meet Alexa Romero of CharfooderieATX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Romero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It started in college when I figured out I liked throwing parties. My first ever was for my best friend/roommate at the time for his birthday. It was something about decorating a space, bringing a certain vibe to it, and ultimately bringing people together for a fun time that really drew me in! I also found excitement and motivation from planning it all out and adding small decor and elements that really gave it the wow factor. So I had planned a few college parties, and then after college I started planning more fun events just because or for my birthday, Halloween, Friendsgiving, etc. because I love a good theme! It’s just so fun to create something colorful and bring a theme to life and at the reveal getting to see people’s interactions and conversations surrounding my creation. There is no other feeling like it!

Fast forward a few years, I wasn’t sure I really wanted to own my own business until I really got more into cooking. I started experimenting with a lot of recipes and loved feeding people as it gave me a reason to decorate/plan! So as my cooking and tastebuds improved and expanded, I decided last year how cool it would be to make food board spreads! To take something unconventional like tacos or brunch or dessert and present it in a way that allowed you to create your own bites and eat your way to happiness all day! So I thought mm that could be a business! So I then started doing TikToks and doing a lot more cooking and experimenting! It wasn’t until I met a life coach that I really honed in on this vision and then Charfooderie was born! I started with Charcuterie since I discovered I always get them or am drawn to them at places. I think it goes back to having a spread of food and being able to create your own perfect bite while trying out different flavors. I am a big foodie and will literally try mostly anything!

So here I am today! Growing day by day and turning this into a legitimate business! I ultimately want to own a shop so I can bring some of those unconventional boards to people as well as using it as an event space for workshops, small events, etc.

I think this was the best route as I took my love of event planning and manipulated it into my own thing that allowed me to create food and experiences with also an event space/decor element!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is a great question! I would say if we look from the business side of this, it has been a smooth road! It has grown at a slow but steady pace which allowed me to balance my full-time job without burning myself out. I have been proud of my progress in regards to business elements such as my website, which should be done next month, and my LLC which was approved a month ago. If we turn to the creative side of this business, quite honestly it has not been a smooth road, but I did not expect it to be. Part of the reason it took me so long to do this was because I never quite believed I could. So although I am growing and working on my confidence, creatively it has been a struggle since this industry is heavily saturated. Comparison is natural and my journey to my own style definitely brought on a lot of it. But this journey also introduced me to an amazing community, so although a bumpy road, it has been a worthwhile one.

As you know, we’re big fans of CharfooderieATX. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
CharfooderieATX is a woman-owned business specializing in Charcuterie boards & grazing tables.

We at CharfooderieATX are committed to using quality, hand-selected ingredients.

We also aim to be conscious of the environment.

We specialize in Luxe grazing with lots of color and variety.

I want readers to know that our goal is to provide an experience, a statement piece for conversation, with every board that we create. We love to customize as little or as much as the customer likes so that they receive something worthy of the moments they are allowing us to share with them.

I am most proud brand-wise of how I have grown this business so much in less than a year. I am grateful for all of the supporters and customers and I can only hope this business becomes as big as I dream.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was an easygoing person! I admit to being insecure a lot of my adolescence, but on a positive note it made me very friendly and open to anyone, which meant I always had friends in different grades and friend groups. It gave me lots of perspective throughout the years, which speaks to the wise role I play in many of my relationships today. I definitely had a people pleasing personality and still do in ways today, but this is where my love for entertaining stemmed from I believe. As I grew in high school/college, this lack of self-confidence and fear of acceptance from others created an avenue for self-expression. That grew tremendously and turned into CharfooderieATX.

Interest-wise, growing up I was into soccer, volleyball, barbies, playing games with friends, so did not plan or entertain much other than occasional sleepovers! I definitely did love a planned game of tag or water balloons though! I also am from Galveston, Texas so in high school, I actually loved to longboard on the seawall with friends, and we would just ride from one end of the island to the other, and it was seriously one of my best pastimes. That and just walking on the seawall at night, lost in conversation with a good sea breeze.
