Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Poche.
Hi Alicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a physical therapist for over twenty years, but at the core of it, I’ve always just wanted to help people feel better in their bodies.
I started out in outpatient orthopedics and pretty quickly found my lane in spine care. I completed a spine mentorship early in my career and realized it was an area I felt both comfortable with and genuinely enjoyed. Over time, I began working in clinics that treated a lot of chronic pain and post–car accident patients—and that’s where things really started to shift for me.
I noticed something that kept bothering me. We were doing everything right from a physical standpoint—strength, mobility, manual therapy—but many people weren’t getting better. Or they’d improve but continue to have trouble dealing with the stress and anxiety that comes with pain and dysfunction. No one was addressing the psychosocial aspects of pain.
That curiosity led me down a different path. I completed training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and started learning more about neuroplasticity—how the brain and nervous system can change, and how reframing, mindfulness, and awareness can actually influence pain. It helped me understand what I’d been seeing in the clinic for years.
From there, I kept going. I trained in Reiki, NeuroEmotional Technique, and later The Emotion Code, with the intention of supporting people on more than just a physical level. My goal was never to abandon physical therapy, but to expand it—to treat the whole person, not just the symptom. I began thinking in terms of five layers: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic.
In September of 2019, I opened my own practice so I could finally practice that way. Today, my work blends traditional physical therapy techniques like dry needling, manual therapy, cupping, and soft tissue work with mindfulness coaching and energy-based modalities. It’s not about doing everything—it’s about doing what each person actually needs.
A lot of people find me after they’ve tried everything else. They’re tired, frustrated, and often skeptical. And while I don’t promise miracles, I’ve seen meaningful change happen when all the pieces are finally addressed. Sometimes we don’t just reduce pain—we help people trust their bodies again.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth—and honestly, I don’t think it ever is when you build something from the ground up.
I’m a clinician, not a marketer, and that’s probably been my biggest struggle. Most of my clients find me through word of mouth or strong referral relationships, which I’m really proud of. It speaks to the results and trust that’s been built over time. At the same time, it means growth isn’t always predictable, and the world of digital marketing still feels a bit elusive to me. It’s always changing, and figuring out how to show up online in a way that feels authentic has taken time.
One thing I’ve learned is the importance of not doing everything alone. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have experienced business owners in my corner, offering guidance and perspective when I needed it most. Bringing in professional help for accounting and bookkeeping was a huge turning point. Once the financial side was handled by people who actually enjoy that kind of work, a lot of stress lifted. The challenges are still there, but I’m no longer carrying them by myself—and that’s made all the difference.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Tell us more about your business or organization.
Beyond the Physical is a holistic physical therapy and wellness practice focused on treating the whole person, not just the symptom. The work blends evidence-based physical therapy with mind–body approaches, especially for people dealing with persistent or complex pain.
What do you do?
I provide individualized and intuitive care that blends traditional physical therapy with mindfulness and nervous system-focused approaches. Treatment may include manual therapy, dry needling, cupping, soft tissue work, mindfulness coaching, and energy-based modalities—always tailored to the individual.
What do you specialize in?
Chronic pain and spine-related dysfunction are my primary areas of specialization; however, I also treat joint pain, headache disorders, TMJ dysfunction, running injuries, etc.
What are you known for?
using my intuition and mind-body approach to get to the root of the issue, not only treating the superficial symptoms.
What sets you apart from others?
I integrate physical therapy with nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, and mindfulness. Healing happens across multiple layers, and treatment is never one-size-fits-all.
What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
That I’ve stayed true to my approach. Beyond the Physical reflects how I genuinely work with people, and the growth has come from authenticity and relationships—not forcing myself into a mold that didn’t fit.
What do you want readers to know about your brand and services?
There’s another option when pain doesn’t respond to standard care. Beyond the Physical offers a thoughtful, personalized approach that blends science, compassion, and whole-person healing.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Compassion matters a lot in my work. Most people who come to see me are frustrated, stressed, and unsure of what to try next. Being able to listen and offer a genuine, understanding presence often makes a bigger difference than people expect.
