Today we’d like to introduce you to Alon Bernstein.
Hi Alon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business with nineteen diamonds in 1997. I flew over to Israel, bought some diamonds and came back and sold them and basically repeated this process until 2007/8 when I pivoted into estate jewelry and buying from the public. I now supply jewelry, gemstones and diamonds to stores and dealers in 31 states across the country.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It had until it hasn’t… When I started, it was challenging to open new accounts and stay in business with my limited resources but finally in 2004-2005, I was making a very good living and things were going very well. Then 2007-2008 happened and between customers going bankrupt, a theft and the general economic depression I found myself in debt to my suppliers without the means to repay them nearly losing my house in the process. This may have been the lowest point in my life, actually… I then forced myself to stop feeling sorry for myself and put as much energy and focus as possible into learning colored stones, jewelry and every other aspect of the industry to get on my feet. Pulling myself out of debt took 7-8 years and I didn’t truly feel financially comfortable until maybe 3-4 years ago.

I’m a wholesale estate jewelry, gemstone and diamond dealer. I supply jewelry, gemstones and diamonds to retailers, designers and dealers around the country. The consumer-facing side of my business is geared towards purchasing estates and jewelry from the public.
What’s next?
My future strategy is slow but steady growth. As I increase my inventory, I increase my client base with a goal of increasing my inventory by 20% a year over time. My pivots were taken with regard to covid but those pivots will remain in place permanently.
