Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Stanfield.
Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a passion for organization, events and helping people have fun. After graduating from Purdue, I worked in the marketing industry for several years and loved it. I got married and then switched careers managing my husband’s optometry office. After ten years of that, I decided it was time to do something more fun! I found a property about 20 minutes from where we lived that I thought would be perfect for events. It included a horse barn and a beautiful, historical house with an amazing outdoor area. We closed on the property at the end of 2017 and began renovations in early 2018. The horse barn was gutted, interior redone and extra space added to make it an elegant/rustic/romantic venue that we hoped couples would love. Harper Hill Ranch has been open for almost 3 years now and the business has surpassed my original dreams. In that time, we’ve worked hard and been blessed with bookings, met and worked with wonderful people and survived a pandemic!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I set the bar low for my first year of business in regards to how many bookings I wanted because I really had no idea how it would go. There are so many wedding venues in the Texas Hill Country from which to choose! With my marketing background, I knew we had to get the word out and set ourselves apart if we wanted any type of success. I was fortunate that a few of my friends in the industry reached out and introduced me to other amazing vendors – now known as “friendors!” They put on a styled photo shoot for me, which I was able to use for marketing. We also exhibited at wedding shows and paid for online advertising/accounts with well-known wedding sites. We finally got the ball rolling and then 2020 hit. We were shut down for about 2.5 months and had to reschedule dozens of weddings. As we navigated the challenges of the pandemic, we continued to work hard and go out of our way to provide the best customer service possible. So far, that has paid off and we feel like we are back on track and growing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Harper Hill Ranch?
I am the owner and Chief Operating Officer of Harper Hill Ranch, a wedding and events venue. Located on 128 acres right outside of New Braunfels, the venue includes a renovated, temperature-controlled Barn and on-site accommodations in a historic ranch house. Many couples are first attracted to our venue because of the beautiful stained glass and chandeliers featured in our Barn. Our most popular package includes a full-weekend stay on the property with access to its many amenities. Weddings can be stressful and we want our couples to enjoy themselves as much as possible. They can have rehearsal dinner on-site, relax in the pool, feed our animals (we have llamas, donkeys and longhorns) and sleep in the day after their wedding. We are family-owned and operated, treat our clients with care, and provide them with the best experience possible.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the wedding and events industry will continue to grow. Weddings are a celebration and couples want their guests to have fun. It’s no longer punch and cake – its unforgettable experiences with great food, signature drinks, animals, photo booths, entertainment and more. And many couples are downsizing their guest list so they can really enjoy the company of those most important to them and spend their money on making it a great event without going broke.
