Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Serrata.
Hi Angel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As an online student, I faced adversity as a kid, learned to face reality after college, and pursued to help others in the gay community find the hope I never had growing up through fitness.
Fitness was not always a passion for me. I grew up in a small city called Brownsville, Texas. My parents were divorced, and my mom left the picture when I was five years old. My father and I ended up moving in with my grandmother, where she raised me as one of her own. My father would work and would go out to drink with friends. I spent some weekends looking out the window, waiting for him to come home. As a kid, I became an emotional eater. I became overweight and felt uncomfortable in my skin. I eventually started focusing on my health and dropped the weight. Growing up gay in a Hispanic household was not the easiest, primarily when raised religiously. I felt I had tried to mask being gay by becoming a gym enthusiast. Once I reached college, I was not happy. I felt skinny and weak. I became scrawny after doing so many hours of cardio and eating less. In my first year of college, I started lifting weights and learned about nutrition. Later on, I took courses in exercise sports science and nutrition.
I fell in love with it. The time in the gym was where I could disconnect and be myself. Eventually, I came out to my family in 2018, and the relationship with my father grew more robust. Fitness helped me accept myself and prepared me for what was next. After finishing my Bachelors’s at Texas State University in General Studies, I moved to Austin. I could barely afford rent but did everything I could to make it happen. I got a job as a bartender and a manager at a gym. I felt I was slowly moving forward until I lost my two jobs in 2020 due to COVID. I felt so lost. I had been trying hard to move up, but I wasn’t making any progress. I felt disappointed, but I couldn’t give up on myself. With so much time on my hands, I decided to focus on something I always wanted to do, a fitness program that transformed into an online coaching business called FL3XX FITNESS. Fast-forward to 2022; my passion is to help gay men through fitness help build an unstoppable mindset while getting the results they’ve thought were impossible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was breaking the bad habits from the party lifestyle I had inhabited over the years. I was around alcohol growing up, college then worked as a bartender in downtown Austin. I was tired of going out every weekend, being broke, and not moving forward with my life. I wanted a change because I felt there was more to it. After starting my business, I hit rock bottom in December 2021. I remember crying in the shower after a night out with friends. I told myself, “if I get myself out of this mess, I am never going back.” I quickly found a job back in bartending. I was back where I had started, but once again, I couldn’t give up on myself. After only working four weeks, I decided to quit. With the only money I saved during that month of working, I invested it into an online coach mentor. That’s when everything changed for me—being surrounded by higher-level performers and hearing other people’s stories lit the fire in me. I isolated myself for a few months and got to work. That’s when my coaching business started to take off. I realized that wanting to help change lives inspired me to become a better version of myself and let go of the bad habits that had followed me for years.
As you know, we’re big fans of FL3XX Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in helping men in the gay community aged twenties through forties find motivation & live a healthy lifestyle without strict dieting. After competing in my first bodybuilding show in 2017, I learned the effects of strict dieting and experienced binge eating. Now I focus on teaching others to build a healthier relationship with food. With the right workout programing and nutrition, I help men build the body of their dreams. That be building muscle, dropping body fat, or feeling healthier. With it gaining the confidence they’ve lost over the years or gain the confidence they’ve never had.
What sets me apart is being a gay man who has experienced what’s it’s like to lose hope and faith—knowing what it feels now to feel comfortable in your skin.
I am most proud of building an online community where like-minded individuals can share the struggles and wins in everyday life while being comfortable with themselves.
I offer more than a meal plan and workout program. I teach the knowledge needed to help you build healthier habits and an unstoppable mindset to help others tackle every day. My goal is to help men create a healthier lifestyle, no matter how busy they might be. It being online gives me the liberate to communicate with clients daily, host group zoom sessions and one on one video calls. The part I love the most is having a group community where other clients can meet each other. To get into my program, you must submit a coaching application and then a one-on-one video chat. This video chat is to help dive in deep, see if we’re a good fit, and layout a plan that will help you get the results you want.
What’s next?
My goal is to build a strong team of coaches to help bring a new experience to the gay community through FL3XX FITNESS. To educate others on nutrition, exercise, and building a strong mindset. I plan to bring like-minded individuals who want to break away from bad habits to live a healthier lifestyle because focusing on your fitness goal can be an alone journey, but it doesn’t have to be that way. To grow the community and build a solid foundation with FL3XX FITNESS to help positively impact the gay community.

Thanks for such an amazing and awesome story! Love it! Ángel and FL3XX Fitness have a lot to offer to its customers. Local community highlights are a good source of information that help inspire more people to reach their potential and be highlighted for their inspiration to other.s. Wishing Angel and FL3XX Fitness continued success. One question for me is how did he choose FL3XX as a name for his business? What does it mean to him?
