Community Highlights: Meet Cathlyn Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathlyn Davis.

Hi Cathlyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My mother has always had a knack for interior design. Growing up, she always designed every space in our home to not only be beautiful but functional. As a little girl, I loved watching and helping her create spaces so intentionally and with a personal touch. Her passion has become my own, and she was my inspiration to turn this passion into a reality. I didn’t decide that this is what I wanted to do until I was three years into my fashion design degree at Baylor University, but with the help of my favorite professor, Dr. Rochelle Brunson, we curated a year and a half of coursework and an internship that gave me a firm foundation to do what I love. This led to opportunities to put this into practice by learning under some of the most esteemed names in the interior design field. I have had the opportunity to learn from people I respect and admire and take a little bit of each of them with me into starting my own business venture.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With starting any new business, the biggest obstacle I face is getting my name out there and getting the opportunity to prove to people that I’m a reputable and experienced interior designer in Austin. I’m sure as my business grows, new obstacles will present themselves, but that’s the exciting part right… learning as you grow!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a full-scale residential interior designer. From ground up projects, remodels, or even just freshening up a space, I’m willing ready and able to help my clients create a space that feels beautiful but personal. I specialize in transitional and traditional design but am also experienced in contemporary styles too. I am a designer but also a project manager. I am able to take on projects head on in every aspect, this includes design development, technical drawings, builder specifications, and every detail in between.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My faith, my family, and my integrity in my career. Every decision I make, I first filter through these three priorities. This is a rule I live by.
