Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Melissa Case-Vincent.

Dr. Melissa Case-Vincent

Hi Dr. Melissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Dr. Melissa Case-Vincent. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and grew up in the Northeast. If you are familiar with that part of the city, it is very close to Ft. Bliss Army base. It is quite diverse, due to the military, but also a little tough to grow up. I like to think I built a lot of resilience from growing up there. I knew I didn’t want to live in El Paso forever, so after I graduated from high school, my goal was to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin and become a psychologist. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters degree in Counseling Education. My plan was to always open up a private practice and I received my doctorate in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. During my internship and post-doctoral fellowship, I received extensive training in the schools, diagnosing autism, learning disabilities, and other behavior and emotional difficulties. My training also led me to conducting assessments with adults, as many individuals may go undiagnosed as children. I am very proud to be able to give back to the community and I really enjoy conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and psychotherapy in my private practice!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not always easy to support myself through undergraduate and graduate school. Luckily, I have my husband who has stuck by me through all the financial hardship as a first generation college student! It was difficult to leave our family in El Paso, but we have created our own family and community right here in Austin.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

CAPES is proud to be helping people gain insight into their difficulties, whether neurodivergence, learning disabilities, behavior difficulties, or mental-health concerns. Our therapy services aim to be client-centered and address each person’s or family’s unique needs.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I grew up as a rebellious, punk rock teenager and still love the music to this day. I feel like the DIY ethos in punk rock empowered me to build my independent practice and foster authentic expression in my therapeutic care with clients. It also has encouraged me to celebrate individuality, nonconformity, and authenticity, regardless of societal expectations. So, you may not always catch me in the pit, but I will always be with the crowd!
