Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Sarah Duke, DC of Austin Community Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sarah Duke.

Dr. Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I dreamed about opening a clinic together when we were just 2 massage therapists working together at Lake Austin Spa Resort in 2007. I went on to advance my skills in chiropractic school in 2012, and he got formally trained in Lomi Lomi Massage and craniosacral therapy. Together, we opened our clinic, Austin Community Wellness, in 2016, offering a one-stop shop for chiropractic, massage, and infrared sauna sessions. We started our dream small in a 500 sq ft space, added 300 sq ft space after 3 years, and upgraded to almost 1,500 sq ft this month. Watching this business grow, thrive, and sustain our family has been a real dream come true. We worked so hard for so long to get to this point.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The pandemic posed many problems for our business, as it did for so many others. My husband’s side of the business had to shut down for 90 days, and the chiropractic side of our business was scarce in the beginning. We had to pivot when we were fully operational again and added an infrared sauna and massage chair to create a “Touchless Spa” experience in a private room. This helped ease people back into the clinic.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Austin Community Wellness?
ACW prides itself on the quality and experience behind our bodywork. Currently, we are a 3 personal team comprised of my husband, who has done massage for 27 years, myself, who has done massage for 20 years and chiropractic for 6 years; and Katy, who has done massage for almost 15 years. Katy is known for her deep tissue work, and she is currently training in lymphatic drainage to add that to our office’s skill set. My husband is known as the massage therapist of other Austin massage therapists. He mentors many newer therapists in their techniques, and his specialties are deep tissue, Lomi Lomi, and craniosacral therapy. I specialize in prenatal bodywork, and I also do bodywork for children and infants. I am also developing continuing education for other massage therapists to integrate more clinical work into their massage.

Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
We work with various birth providers, other massage therapists, and service providers to create a referral system for all of us. We are on social media, have a youtube page, phone calls, and emails, and our referrals are our number one way of getting new business.
