Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Marks.
Hi Dustin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in The Woodlands, Texas. I graduated from The Woodlands High in 2004. I went to Texas State University, San Marcos where I majored in Business Finance and graduated in 2009.
My professional experience started while working for large commercial construction companies in Houston, Texas. My most notable achievement was assisting in the construction of the Exxon Campus in Spring, Texas while working for DE Harvey Builders.
My wife, Angela and I decided to move to Austin, Texas after she finished her graduate program in nutrition and dietetics at Texas Woman’s University
When I started Marks Builders in Austin, Texas, my ambition was to bring the level of quality and professionalism found in the commercial construction industry to the residential construction industry.
Marks Builders started as a residential remodel company in 2017. After we successfully executed many interior renovations and patio cover projects, we steadily began to take on larger projects. To date, we have built many large-scale patio covers, performed dozens of interior remodels, built a custom redwood barn in Leander Texas and constructed a Modern Farmhouse home in Bertram, Texas.
Today, we are currently working on a 7,000 SF addition and remodel, building a guest house in Spicewood Texas, finishing a dance studio in Georgetown, Texas and construction a custom home in Bertram, Texas.
As our company continues to grow, we are focusing on new home construction in the Greater Austin area.
Construction is inherently a stressful process which is why we work hard behind the scenes to present our clients with only the aspects that they enjoy. We are strategically partnered with a talented team of Architects, Designers, Engineers and Contractors that have the ability to deliver a high-quality product. What differentiates Marks Builders from the rest is that we remain client focused and not project-focused. Our goal is not to chase the next project. Our goal is to create long-term relationships with clients that trust Marks Builders to make damn sure that their dream home becomes a reality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our greatest challenge has always been finding quality people – diligent project managers and excellent contractors. Just one bad contractor in the middle of the construction sequence can cause rework for the entire team.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Construction never stops. Never.
