Community Highlights: Meet Faythe Vincent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faythe Vincent.

Hi Faythe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 24 years old body piercing studio owner, body piercer, empire builder and mother. My body piercing journey started in 2019 where I was an apprentice. I then shortly found out I was pregnant into my apprenticeship, which made me worried for my career.

Fast forward to me having my daughter, I decided to open up a body jewelry business for people with extremely sensitive skin! I was tired of only supplying basic pieces if people wanted quality jewelry and sought out manufacturers that made quality and ADORABLE pieces of jewelry that could be used for initial piercings or people struggling w their piercings healing.

To promote my jewelry business, I started making Instagram Reels. The first one I made got over 12k views! That’s when I knew I had to do more.

I had so much knowledge to give about quality piercings, jewelry and aftercare and people are hungry for the knowledge! I make educational content as well as run my online jewelry business, which eventually let me graduate from just being a piercer to owning my own studio with two other piercers and a whole badass team of women behind me.

We are working on growing even more from here and the grind never stops!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh it has absolutely not been a smooth road. I dealt with a lot of hater energy in regards to my success. That was a roadblock for me in the beginning but then I realized that those people do not define me, my work ethic or the money in my bank.

Imposter syndrome used to weigh super heavy on me because I haven’t been piercing for very long and I opened up my own space in that time, but I give myself grace because I am always hungry for knowledge and becoming better as a piercer and a boss.

When we first opened up our smaller studio, we were operating off of a very small, outdated sterilizer called a Statim. four weeks into opening our sterilized completely broke down and we got many technicians out there to try to fix it but nothing was helping! It had us closed for TWO WEEKS And I ended up having to buy a new one. Thankfully, I ran a sale with a catchy coupon code about our sterilizer and my community pulled through for me!

A similar thing is currently happening where we are battling with the city over a parking situation at my building, and our community came through again during our time of need.

It always feels life ending when things go south when owning a business, but you HAVE to expect it. You will never be perfect as a leader, boss or business owner. Road bumps WILL happen. You just have to make sure that you have a solid support system and community behind you that will be there to cushion the fall.

We’ve been impressed with Faythe Vincent Body Jewelry, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My body jewelry business specializes in implant grade, non reactive, non corrosive metals that help people who have sensitive skin allergies. We mainly use implant grade titanium and implant grade 14kt gold, which are both materials used in actual surgeries.

We are trying to abolish the manipulative marketing of cheaper jewelry companies that market “surgical steel” and “sterling silver” as hypoallergenic metals.

These are usually made of low grade metals, they can tarnish in the skin, causing all kinds of reactions such as swelling, oozing, turning the skin colors and sometimes infection!

There’s unfortunately no regulation on the words “hypoallergenic” so a lot of companies use that word despite not having the Mill Certification to back up that statement.

There’s a lot of misconceptions about what materials are safe for body piercings, and my brand is fighting via Instagram reels to change public perception on body jewelry and piercings and that it isn’t normal to suffer during a piercing healing process if you have the proper metals and aftercare installed!

We offer high quality body jewelry, high quality piercing services, virtual consultations for people struggling with their piercing healing, and curations where we design peoples ears for them with amazing jewelry and placement!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I definitely see huge shifts in the industry I am in already since I joined. I am so proud to be a piercer because most of our community strives to perpetually be better and shift practices to better suit client’s and their healing.

I think we are going to be seeing more piercers stand up to toxic shop owners and demand quality for their clients, or take matters into their own hands by opening up their own suites and shops.

I really encourage a lot of my peers and colleagues to strive for independence in the industry. Most of us are contractors but not treated as such. I suspect to see a huge change in the piercing employee culture as far as how they are treated as employees.
