Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Chambers
Hi Grant, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Yes Sir, No Sir: A Band of Brothers, A Sound of Resilience
In the heart of Texas, where music pulses through the veins of its communities, six friends—each a devoted father, husband, and professional—carve out time to create something extraordinary. Yes Sir, No Sir isn’t just another rock band; it’s a testament to the power of lifelong friendship and the unrelenting pull of music. Bound by history, passion, and a shared love for the craft, these musicians have recently marked a significant milestone—the release of their second full-length album on Chicken Ranch Records. Even more exciting, they have been selected as an official 2025 SXSW Artist, a true honor for a local band that has attended the festival for decades.
A Brotherhood Forged in Rhythm
The story of Yes Sir, No Sir begins decades ago, with roots running deep into the high school halls of New Braunfels. Kevin Brinkkoeter and Dave, two of the band’s core members, first connected on the drumline of New Braunfels High School, where their friendship was forged through the synchronized beats of marching percussion. Just a year or two after high school, Kevin met Grant Chambers. They forged a strong bond over music and played in bands together.
“The chemistry in this band is something special,” says Grant Chambers. “We’ve all been through life’s ups and downs together, and that connection translates into the music we make.”
While each member leads a full life outside of the band, with careers spanning various industries and families being their top priority, the gravitational pull of music remains undeniable. “We make time for this because music builds community. And honestly, it feeds our souls,” says Kevin Brinkkoeter.
A Sound That Stands Tall
Yes Sir, No Sir’s music blends raw energy, intricate melodies, and heartfelt lyricism. Drawing from classic rock, indie, and alternative influences, the band crafts a sound that resonates deeply. Their latest album, released on Chicken Ranch Records, solidifies their evolution. Produced by Kevin Butler at Test Tube Audio, the album captures their signature energy and emotion.
“This album is the culmination of years of playing, writing, and evolving,” says Brinkkoeter. “We poured everything into it—our experiences, our struggles, our victories.”
A Partnership with Chicken Ranch Records
The band’s collaboration with Chicken Ranch Records is a pivotal moment. The label, helmed by Mike Dickinson, has been a beacon for Austin’s indie scene, winning the Austin Chronicle’s “Best Local Label” award.
“Working with Chicken Ranch has been an incredible experience,” says Chambers. “Mike understands who we are as a band and give us the freedom to stay true to our sound while helping us reach a wider audience.”
The Balancing Act: Family, Work, and Music
Juggling full-time careers, family life, and a growing band is no small feat. “We’re all dads, we all have jobs, and we all have responsibilities outside of music,” says Brinkkoeter. “But music isn’t something we can just set aside. It’s a part of who we are.”
Rehearsals are strategically planned around work schedules and family commitments – typically starting around 8 or 9pm. Shows are selected with care, ensuring that the band’s passion for performing never comes at the expense of their personal lives.
“We make it work because we believe in what we’re doing,” Chambers adds. “And when the music leads us closer to our friends, family and community, it tells us its all worth it.”
A Future Fueled by Passion
Yes Sir, No Sir is not chasing stardom but something far more meaningful—the joy of making music with lifelong friends, the thrill of connecting with people, and the fulfillment of creating something that lasts.
With their new album, This Is Going to Last Forever, and the honor of being an official 2025 SXSW Artist, the band is gearing up for performances that will bring their music to fans both old and new. Having attended SXSW for decades, being officially included in the lineup is a true milestone moment.
As the band continues to grow, one thing remains certain: Yes Sir, No Sir proves that music isn’t just for the young or the unburdened. It’s for anyone with a story to tell, a passion to share, and the willingness to make time for something that truly matters.
And for these six friends, that something is making music together.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Balancing careers, families, and music has required sacrifice and perseverance. Finding time for rehearsals often means late nights after long workdays. Shows have to be carefully planned around personal responsibilities. There have been moments where it seemed impossible to keep going, but the band’s shared commitment to music—and to each other—has kept them moving forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
