Community Highlights: Meet Haider Harbi of Sosa Mediterranean Food

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haider Harbi.

Hi Haider, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From Baghdad, Iraq originally so I served in the Iraqi Special Operations Forces before moving to the U.S. nearly a decade ago. I came to Austin directly since 2013 because my sponsor “Matthew Fausett” born and raised in Austin TX, so that’s why I picked Austin. My first job it was as a dishwasher.

May 15th, 2017 my oldest brother and Best friend they engorged me to open food truck because the food is always my passion and here we are. I just opened 2nd location of N Austin and I’m going to Austin Community College ” Culinary arts school ” to become a chef!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not smooth at all, I used to working about 60 hours a week, no days off or vacation. I was focused to do my goals and the dream come true.

Cooking at my food truck a fresh and healthy food I love to feeding peoples I make the one of the best FALAFEL in the United States!! I really care about our customers.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I really like Austin people’s very friendly and welcoming.
