Community Highlights: Meet Jacquelyn Miller of Rad Wellbeing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Miller

Hi Jacquelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Functional Health Practice (Rad Wellbeing) is ultimately the result of creating meaning out of struggle. Many practitioners in the health and wellness space go through a “pain to purpose” journey, and I am no exception. In my early 20’s (which feels like a lifetime ago!), I suffered greatly from poor mental health. I dealt with anxiety, depression and panic attacks- and all the physical symptoms that come with those states such as hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, insomnia and more.

When it all started, I took the Conventional Western Medicine approach, because I had no idea there were alternatives. That was essentially, “here’s your diagnosis, this is probably genetic, you’ll deal with it for your whole life, never stop taking your medication”. A few years later, that mindset started to feel extremely limiting, and it felt like there was a curtain I needed to pull back to really understand WHY I was struggling.

Over a decade ago, I started to work with a Functional Health Practitioner and once I started that process and saw the vast amount of opportunities for healing that are available, it opened up my entire world.

You name it and I have likely tried it- functional/integrative medicine, nutritional therapy, esoteric and spiritual modalities, eastern medicine, energetic medicine, many different types of therapy in all realms. I’m grateful for all of those experiences and practitioners because every one of them has helped shape how I approach well-being. These experiences have given me a really broad lens through which to view health, which is looking at the WHOLE and understanding that everything in the ecosystem of our life can contribute to or deplete our wellbeing. This approach could be distilled down into what I call a blend of “Science and Soul”.

What I’ve come to find is that everything on our life’s path can serve as our medicine.

I have come to see that our struggles, whether physical, mental or emotional, can be used as “assignments” for us to fuel growth and evolution in our life time. That doesn’t mean we won’t struggle, but it means that on the other side of struggle, a rich and full life can be discovered for those willing to make the journey.

I made a lot of big changes over the years to build a life that was in alignment- physically, mentally, relationally, and vocationally. Ultimately this led to the choice to dedicate my vocation to helping other women navigate their own well-being journeys.

I started working in the Functional Medicine space as a physician’s consultant in 2016. Over seven years I worked with 400+ clinicians in Austin and California, and during that time worked on six different certifications and trainings that help inform the approach I take in practice today. I am a deep believer in the power of personal transformation by blending simple lifestyle practices with individualized protocols that restore optimal function in the body. I always knew that I eventually wanted to start my own practice, which came to fruition in late 2023.

My practice, Rad Wellbeing, has the simple aim of helping women live radically well. Physical optimization is a big part of that, but it is also a process of helping women understand and embody what their highest potential is, and live with that potential as their set point. It is a culmination of turning struggle into purpose, and helping other women do the same.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If any entrepreneur tells you it’s been a smooth road, they aren’t telling you the truth! Some of the biggest challenges I have faced are actually around marketing, and embracing that it is such a big part of the gig when you own your own business- this wasn’t something I was well prepared for. I have had to learn how to embrace a lot of tools, especially in the digital and social media space, that just felt really foreign and uncomfortable initially. I actually opened my practice with the aim of being a social media free business, because personally I believe that social media is a major contributor to poor health in our society, and participating in that space felt like it was going against my own value system. I quickly learned that things like social media and digital marketing just come with the territory in a business like this, so I created boundaries around how I use them, and found ways that I could leverage them while still staying authentic to myself and my values.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rad Wellbeing?
Rad Wellbeing is a Women’s Functional and Holistic health practice that blends science and soul to help women radically transform their health. I work with women of all ages, struggling with high stress, anxiety, hormone imbalances, low energy, poor metabolism, digestive issues, low mood and more. Going through the process at Rad aims to help women understand their health at a deeper level so that they can find freedom from their symptoms and struggles, and create empowered, lasting change in their lives.

I utilize tools like functional lab work, personalized nutrition (including targeted supplementation), custom lifestyle plans, integration of mental/emotional/spiritual health and incorporate mindfulness and compassion-based work to take a “Whole Woman” approach to health and well-being. We leave no stone unturned when it comes to identifying opportunities for healing and optimization.

I am also a BIG believer in the power of education, and education is a huge part of the process that women go through in my practice. They learn the “why” behind all that they do, and get to engage in education that cuts through the massive amount of noise and fads that come with the wellness industry.

It is a life-changing process for many women, and I don’t say that lightly! Many of the women that work with me have grown frustrated with the conventional medical system and lack of answers/resolve they get from that system, or are overwhelmed with the vast amount of health and wellness advice out there, and need a trusted guide. I am incredibly honored to be a guide for women, and a partner in their pursuit of well-being.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh my gosh, this list could be endless! I would not be the woman I am without my community and loved ones, and I can honestly say that my practice would not exist without the love and support of so many. I am grateful every single day for the family, chosen family, colleagues, mentors and the community that sees me and supports me. Out of everyone however, my husband, Jeremy certainly deserves the most credit. Adapting to life as an entrepreneur has been strange and challenging at times but he has weathered all the storms with me in this first year. He is a source of steadfast encouragement, wisdom, rationality, and kindness. He is truly the “man behind the woman” and his impact on me, and the way that I am able to show up in my business, is nearly indescribable.
