Community Highlights: Meet Jenna Edge of Ash Creek Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Edge

Hi Jenna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a marketing graduate from Texas State University, I dove headfirst into my professional career at a startup in San Antonio. In this dynamic environment, it was all hands on deck, and there were no boundaries to what I could work on. My thirst for knowledge kicked into high gear, and I cut my teeth helping build the company from the ground up.

After a few years, I met my now-husband, who lived in Austin, and decided it was time for a change. I began job hunting online and landed a Marketing Manager position at Ash Creek Homes. After a couple of interviews, I was thrilled to accept the job and make the move to Austin.

A few months into handling the marketing for the company, the founder, Scott Morledge, asked if I was interested in learning more about the business and shadowing him in land acquisition, entitlements, and development. Never one to shy away from learning, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business.

In just a few short years, I became President and then owner of the company. It was an opportunity I could never have even dreamed of, and I owe it all to my amazing mentors, Jack Nelson and Scott Morledge, as well as my innate thirst for knowledge.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The home building business is anything but a smooth road. There are always challenges, some larger than others. One thing I’ve learned is that all businesses face challenges—it’s how you handle them that makes you better and stronger as a person and as a company. The biggest challenge we faced was in 2021. During this time, Austin faced off-the-charts demand for housing and a massive shortage of supply in real estate. However, due to COVID-related supply chain issues and labor shortages, maintaining steady progress in construction became challenging. We had to get really creative and lean on each other as a team to navigate these challenges. It was tough, but what got me through was our amazing team, talking and venting to peers, and coming home to my family and new baby.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ash Creek Homes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a small, but mighty, local developer and home builder working to curate boutique communities from start to finish. Each Ash Creek Home community is unique in every possible way; we don’t build cookie cutter neighborhoods. Ash Creek communities feature quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, beautiful landscaping, and homes people love to live in. We also have an outstanding reputation with our customers. Many return to buy again when we begin a new community in an area they’d like to live in because they love living in an Ash Creek Home. I am most proud of our thoughtful customer service and focus on quality details in our communities and homes. We care about all the people involved in our work (internal team, customers, realtors, homeowners, and contractors) and strive to reflect that in our work.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
There is so much to love about Austin but if I had to pick one thing, I would pick the weather. The sunshine and generally dry warm/temperate weather we have year-round always puts a smile on my face. The thing I like least about our city is how costly it is for developers like Ash Creek to build in the city of Austin. One thing our city struggles with is affordable housing. The city’s development fees are one of the components that make development costly and in fact, the City of Austin has the highest development fees in the state.
