Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Fisher.
Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I didn’t know interior design was a career, I just knew I was obsessed with spaces. As a kid, I would walk into room or buildings and immediately start imagining how I could turn them into a home. I was always rearranging, visualizing, and dreaming. I’d watch I Love Lucy religiously because I loved her furniture. I was captivated by the style and the way it all came together.
Since my dad and grandfather were contractors, I spent some time on job sites, absorbing the process, learning how things get built, and getting a firsthand education in all things construction. That early exposure gave me a deep respect for craftsmanship and construction, which still influences every design decision I make today.
Although I didn’t earn a formal degree in design, I edged my way into the industry through real-world experience, working for a couple of the top designers in the US and building a career grounded in curiosity, instinct, and persistence. I launched J.Fisher Interiors in July of 2014 with the goal of creating elevated, livable, deeply personal spaces.
Over the past decade, my firm has grown through word of mouth and long-standing relationships. I’ve been fortunate to work with incredible clients on full-scale homes, second properties, historic renovations, and everything in between. My work has been featured in several publications, but more meaningful than any accolade is a client walking into their home and feeling like it truly reflects them and watching the tears flow from joy.
To me, design isn’t about trends, it’s about making decisions that will stand the test of time. It’s about how a space lives, how it flows, and how it tells their story. This is what got me started, and it’s still what drives me today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. The truth is, my career and personal life have unfolded side by side, and at times the weight of both has felt nearly impossible to carry.
In 2016, my sweet mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and everything changed. She was my rock and watching her decline was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. I was growing my new business at the same time as I was slowly losing the most important person in my life. She passed away a few years later, and I’ve carried that grief with me into every room I walked into, trying to stay strong, stay creative, and stay present for my clients.
Then, just two years later, I became a mom myself. My daughter was born prematurely with a heart defect and had to undergo open heart surgery at 2.5 months old. Navigating the NICU, surgeries, and the terrifying unknowns of that time shifted everything again. Running a business while advocating for her health and staying emotionally grounded was the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced. Some clients didn’t understand and didn’t give any grace and that was difficult to understand and overcome.
Those experiences forced me to slow down, reassess what matters, and hold space for both pain and beauty in my work. They deepened my empathy, my resilience, and ultimately, my ability to design spaces that truly support the people who live in them.
As you know, we’re big fans of J.Fisher Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
J.Fisher Interiors is a full-service luxury interior design firm based in Austin, Texas. We specialize in high-end residential projects, from full-home furnishings to ground-up construction and architectural remodels. Whether it’s a primary residence, second home, or entertainment property, our work is rooted in creating elevated, deeply personal spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
What sets us apart is our approach. We don’t have a “signature style” because every project is tailored to the client. Our designs are layered, thoughtful, and story-driven, mixing new and vintage, refined and raw, clean lines and soulful textures. Clients come to us because they want a home that feels curated, collected, and entirely their own.
We’re known for our ability to translate a client’s vision into something unexpected, something better than they imagined. This ability comes from years of experience, a strong network of trusted vendors and artisans, and an instinct for knowing when to push boundaries and when to show restraint.
I’m especially proud of the trust we’ve built. Nearly all our work comes through referrals or long-standing relationships. I’ve had clients come back to work with us on second and third homes, and I think that says everything about the experience we offer.
At the end of the day, we’re not just making beautiful rooms. We’re creating spaces that support people’s lives, spaces that function, inspire, and feel like home. That’s what J.Fisher Interiors is all about.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My daughter is my greatest joy. Watching her grow, explore, and experience the world, especially after everything she’s been through is something I’ll never take for granted. She is so incredibly strong, curious, and hilarious, and being her mom has brought a whole new depth to my life.
Beyond that, I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by my favorite people sharing good conversation, meals, and laughter. I love live music and the energy it brings, especially here in Austin. And honestly, work makes me happy too. I genuinely love what I do. Creating beautiful, functional spaces that reflect the people who live in them is incredibly fulfilling. I get to solve puzzles, tell stories, and make people feel at home. That’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.
