Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha Brown.
Hi Kisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
G.E.M. CLASS started as a spark during my years as a public school teacher. I was always looking for ways to make learning more engaging—especially for students who thrived outside of traditional desks and worksheets. I began creating movement-based games to reinforce academic concepts and noticed how much more connected, confident, and curious my students became.
Throughout my teaching career, I mentored college students and first-year teachers—encouraging them to make their lessons fun, inclusive, and meaningful. I conducted professional learning committees within our district, served on school-based decision-making councils, and led fundraisers to bring new programs to life—especially for students who missed out on related arts due to tight schedules. I also spent many spring and summer breaks working on district-level curriculum revisions in physical education, health, financial literacy, and consumerism to ensure content was relevant, engaging, and aligned with student needs.
After stepping away from the classroom, I knew I wasn’t done teaching—I just wanted to do it differently. That’s when G.E.M. CLASS (Guide, Enrich, Move) came to life. It began as a small pilot in Southern Maryland, and within a year, we partnered with nine organizations and served over 100 families and were honored to be nominated as one of the best in Southern Maryland for education services. We now offer mobile programs for all ages—homeschoolers, schools, workplaces, and more—and recently expanded to the Austin, TX area.
At its core, G.E.M. CLASS exists to support the whole person—child or adult—through movement-based learning. We prioritize small group experiences, purposeful play, and hands-on connection to help people thrive in school, at home, and even at work. Whether we’re leading enrichment programs for kids, fostering teamwork and wellness for adults, or mentoring others who run programs for children, our goal is to build confidence, spark creativity, and strengthen relationships through joyful movement.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road—but every bump taught me something valuable.
I knew I wanted to leave my career and stay home with my now four-year-old, who’s also my biggest cheerleader. At the same time, I wasn’t ready to let go of my passion for teaching and creating meaningful learning experiences. Starting G.E.M. CLASS meant stepping into the unknown—building everything from the ground up with limited resources, from curriculum and branding to partnerships and community trust.
There were seasons when classes were small, funding was tight, and I questioned if it was all worth it. One of the biggest challenges has been keeping programs high-quality while still making them affordable and accessible for families. Balancing growth with integrity—without pricing out the very people I wanted to serve—has required a lot of creativity and heart.
But each struggle reminded me why I started. G.E.M. CLASS was never meant to be perfect—it was meant to be purposeful. And that mindset continues to guide me through every challenge.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about G.E.M. CLASS ( GUIDE•ENRICH•MOVE)?
G.E.M. CLASS stands for Guide, Enrich, Move—and that’s exactly what we do. We’re a mobile, movement-based program designed for all ages that blends fun with purpose. Whether we’re leading enrichment classes for homeschoolers, supporting public and private schools, creating team-building experiences for adults, or hosting unforgettable themed parties for kids, everything we offer is rooted in connection, creativity, and movement.
We specialize in small group, hands-on sessions that nurture the whole person—not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and physically. We’re known for our ability to take everyday learning and make it active, engaging, and unforgettable. Our programs are designed by a licensed educator with over 15 years of experience, and each session is intentionally crafted to spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage collaboration.
What sets us apart is our heart. We prioritize relationships over rigid routines and create environments where learners feel seen, supported, and celebrated. We partner with local organizations—from schools and studios to community centers and small businesses—to bring our programs directly to the people we serve. No gym? No problem. We adapt to the spaces available and make them come alive through purposeful movement.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built with families and partners, and the joy we see in learners of all ages. G.E.M. CLASS started small and grassroots, but it’s growing because the experience speaks for itself. It’s not just about movement—it’s about meaningful growth.
If you’re looking for something beyond worksheets and one-size-fits-all lessons, G.E.M. CLASS offers purposeful play, personalized programs, and powerful connection—where movement meets learning in the most joyful way.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was being part of the PE Club—a unique group where we learned to ride unicycles and performed choreographed routines at small college halftime shows. It was such a fun and empowering experience to travel, perform, and be part of something so different and active. That early exposure to movement, creativity, and teamwork definitely planted the seed for what I do now with G.E.M. CLASS. It showed me how powerful physical activity can be in building confidence and community—even at a young age.
