Community Highlights: Meet Kristin Gunn of Beaux Medspa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Gunn.

Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was working for a prominent Plastic Surgeon in the operating room as a Surgical Technologist. I was definitely tired of being on my feet all day in multiple layers of sterile garmets and was feeling like I had hit a plateau in my career. This was when cosmetic injectables started to become more popular. I made it my mission to switch careers in my mid-thirties to something I was more passionate about (skincare, anti-aging, and making people feel great!) I hit so many obstacles. A reoccurring theme was people trying to sway me from becoming an esthetician and telling me “you’ll never make any money doing that.” I knew I could do it.

The doctor I worked for was kind enough to train me by having me mark the injections spots with a marker, and he would come wipe them off and tell me to “try again.” We did this for a solid year before he set me free on Botox! My filler training took even longer, but I’m so glad I learned under a watchful eye. I have taken many classes, completed numerous advanced trainings and worked with many well-respected physicians both regionally and nationally but the space was never my own.

Dr. Andrew Trussler and I opened Beaux Medspa in Feb 2021. I wanted to be able to hire the best team, to make decisions about treatment offerings, and create a space where women feel beautiful and comfortable and men feel just as welcome. There is no hard-sell here and zero pressure tactics. We will talk you out of something if we think it’s a bad idea! My whole Team is amazing and the vibe is bright and happy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It really has been a smooth road since opened. I was already doing all of the things I do now (but working hard for someone else). I look back now and realize how terrifying it was to take a leap of faith and invest in myself. It was so scary leaving a comfortable paycheck for the great unknown. But the 2020 shutdown gave me the time I needed to slow down and really look at what I was doing. The biggest eye-opener for me was realizing I wasn’t being appreciated at work. I wasn’t happy. I wanted to give back to the community. I wanted to have more time to do more meaningful things. To do this, I had to have control over my schedule.

It has been a busy year. The medspa is busy, and we are already expanding into the space next door doubling in size.

I have been hard at work launching a scholarship fund for aspiring estheticians called The Kristin Gunn Excellence in Aesthetics Scholarship. I’m giving $2500 to two aspiring estheticians twice per year. This industry has changed my life, and I want to help others do the same. My RN Frankie and I also have some ideas coming up for the women’s shelter and are ironing out the details of a new 501(c)(3) charity. So many exciting things brewing! My heart is full.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Beaux Medspa?
Beaux Medspa is a boutique-style medspa in Westlake with a bright sunny welcoming vibe and a list of services that is always on-trend and current. We don’t do any advertising and have built a loyal following based on referrals and online reviews. We have a back door entry/exit for discreet VIP visitors and a highly skilled Dream Team staff.

I developed a product line several years ago called Halcyon Skincare. This is our biggest seller and focuses on quality and affordability. My estheticians are great with specialized issues such as teens dealing with acne issues, rosacea, pigmentation, and we even have a pregnancy facial. We will design a skincare regimen for you (based on your unique skin type) that is both effective and manageable.

We are definitely most known for our Botox and Filler injections. There are four of us that do this, and we are busy! You are first seen by our onsite Nurse Practitioner who will develop a plan of care, and then you are good to go. The process is simple and the appointments are quick.

All of us specialize in natural-looking injections and enhancing your beauty without making you look overdone. We also make recommendations based on the condition of your skin and any concerns you may have.
