Community Highlights: Meet Lacey McDaniel of Newsboy Marketing & Publishing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey McDaniel.

Lacey McDaniel

Hi Lacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Kansas City, MO. Go Chiefs! I moved to Austin (by way of New York and Rio de Janeiro) over 10 years ago. As a jack of all trades, I have dabbled in playing the drums in an all-girl punk band, painting, writing, hosting a podcast, life coaching, and finally landing on starting a marketing and publishing company. Talk about madness, but rewarding.

I started Newsboy Marketing & Publishing with a simple idea: that brands, no matter their size or budget, deserve stories that truly connect with people. While working in the corporate world, I noticed so many businesses pouring their hearts into what they offered, but struggling to communicate that passion in a way that felt authentic and strategic. That gap inspired me to build an agency that could bridge creativity with clarity.

From the start, I focused on listening first. Instead of jumping straight into flashy campaigns, I invested in understanding each client’s voice, values, and goals. That approach has not only helped us create stronger strategies but also built lasting relationships.

As Newsboy grew, I saw another need emerge: many of the entrepreneurs and leaders we worked with weren’t just building businesses, they were building ideas, movements, and stories worth publishing. Not to mention, as an author myself, I was personally writing books that I intended to publish that could be backed by a publishing brand. That realization expanded my vision beyond marketing and into self-publishing services, helping authors and thought leaders bring their voices to print. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see clients not only grow their brands but also share their expertise and stories with the world in lasting ways.

Today, Newsboy has become both a full-service marketing agency and a self-publishing studio, where strategy, storytelling, design, and publishing all work hand-in-hand. Looking back, it’s been a mix of curiosity, resilience, and a genuine love for helping people tell their stories. We tell your story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. Like most startups, we’ve had our fair share of setbacks and unexpected turns. In the early days, there were challenges with resources, finding the right clients, and learning how to balance creativity with business operations. Later, as we grew, we faced the common struggles of scaling, building processes, managing larger projects, and keeping the quality of our work consistent as demand increased.

But honestly, each of those obstacles has been a lesson. Every setback has forced us to adapt, refine, and get better at what we do and hone in on our specialties. Instead of seeing challenges as roadblocks, we’ve treated them as stepping stones. They’ve made us stronger, more resilient, and more intentional about how we serve our clients.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, and even more excited about what’s ahead.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Newsboy, everything we do comes back to storytelling. We help brands and individuals share their stories through three main areas: content marketing, branding, and self-publishing.

In content marketing, we specialize in creating strategies and campaigns that go deeper than just posting online. We develop blogs, case studies, eBooks, and brand narratives that educate, inspire, and build trust with audiences. Our goal is to position our clients as leaders in their space while also creating content that drives real results.

Branding and design is another cornerstone of our work. From branding and digital assets to layouts and visual storytelling, we focus on creating designs that are not only visually striking but also strategic — making sure every element supports the bigger picture of our clients’ brand story.

And with self-publishing, we help authors, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders turn their ideas into published works. We guide them through the process, from concept and editing to design and distribution, so they can share their expertise and voice with the world in a professional, lasting format.

What sets us apart is our holistic approach. Many agencies focus on either marketing, branding, or publishing — we bring them together. That means our clients get a cohesive strategy where their content, visuals, and publications all align seamlessly.

Brand-wise, we’re most proud of being able to take someone’s vision — whether that’s a business idea or a book — and transform it into something tangible that connects with an audience. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch our clients not only grow but also gain confidence in their own story.

If there’s one thing we’d want readers to know, it’s that Newsboy is here to help you share your story in the most powerful way possible. Whether through content marketing, branding, or publishing, we believe every story deserves to be told, and told well.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Buda and Austin is the incredible mix of opportunities, food, and creative energy. There’s a real energetic spirit here; people are always building, creating, and collaborating, which makes it such an inspiring place to live and work. And of course, the food scene is my favorite. From my local haunts to new spots popping up all the time, there’s always something delicious to discover.

If I had to pick what I like least, it would definitely be the traffic and the heat. The traffic can test your patience, and the Texas summers are no joke. But honestly, those are small trade-offs compared to everything else this area has to offer.
