Today we’d like to introduce you to Lara Brown.
Hi Lara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for great beer happened when my ex-husband got stationed in Germany. I fell in love with European beers and missed them greatly when I moved back to the states. Found our local homebrew store and started with really simple homebrew kits and moved up from there. In 2019, I was asked by the owner of that homebrew store if I would be interested in buying the store. I knew I had to, I jumped at the opportunity and July 1, 2019 I became the proud new owner of Black Hawk Brewing Supply. That’s when the plans to open the brewery started. In March 2020, I moved the homebrew store to a temporary location and went on the hunt for a brewery building. July 2020 Black Hawk opened in our new brewery location and Friday the 13th November 2020 Iron Gauntlet Brauhaus opened its doors. We have expanded our menu and number of seats since then. We do lots of events from local military functions, dog adoptions, trivia, karaoke, live music, bingo and more. Lara is a born and raised Texan who is also a Disabled Army Veteran. She also stepped up during the winter storm 2021 boiling over 10,000 gallons of water in their brewing equipment and handing out another 30,000 gallons of non-boiled water to the community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I opened in the middle of covid with federal and state regulations changing daily.

Female Veteran owned and brewed. It’s a military-themed brewery where everyone from military, veterans, kids and dogs can relax and hang out. We are known for our silly military theme named beers and Duke our brew dog. Being women-owned definitely sets us apart, brewing is definitely a boys club but we want other females to know they can do it too.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Beer… of course. But all our customers are like family so hanging out with them daily brings joy to me.
