Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Burton.
Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Laura Burton has a degree from the UT School of Architecture and years of experience serving as interior architect, designer, and project manager for clients nationwide. Laura values authenticity, both in life and design, and fiercely avoids pretense in favor of quality and practicality. She is on-the-go, creative, and passionate about designing elevated spaces that represent a client, both in style and function.
Laura was born a “big city girl” (born in New York City and grew up in Dallas) but prefers small town attitudes and priorities (she went to high school in a small town in New Mexico. That vibe really spoke to her). She will always opt for a one-on-one conversation versus a crowded room, and loves to learn the behind-the-scenes ideas that make a person “tick”. Through years of managing remodels and new construction, Laura discovered that she has a vision for raw potential and she loves to find ways to represent an individual’s personality via their space. The demolition phase of a remodel, or the framing of new construction, are her favorite phases a project. Laura feels that getting down to the bare bones and being able to develop a space from the ground up is where the magic happens.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Probably my biggest challenge was starting a career in Interiors when my education was actually an architecture. I felt knowledge limitations regarding furniture and textiles, so I hired team members with those strengths and over the years that strategy has allowed me to become more well rounded as an interior designer.
I also performed as a contractor for a few years. There were challenges with convincing subcontractors that I had a solid knowledge base, because they were not used to working with females in their industry. With time and experience, I developed strong relationships, and I am thankful for those years.
As you know, we’re big fans of Laura Burton Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Because of the varied experience that I described in my bio (having been educated as an architect, hiring furniture experts early on, and working as a contractor), our firm has a strong education and knowledge base. I feel that is one of our key strengths. Most of our referrals come from Architects and Builders, and I am convinced that is because of our knowledge and organizational skills. We know what other professionals need to do their jobs well, and we are good at providing that support. I even published a book about the building process last year called Find Your Way Home. I felt that I had so much experience within the industry, and I wanted to share those lessons with a broader audience. We are true “Knowledge Experts”.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love to collaborate. The key element that is important to us is trust. If someone reaches out to us, and trusts our industry knowledge and experience, those are the best relationships. I love helping others who have perhaps less experience. Any lessons I can teach them to help them avoid common pitfalls is important to me. That is actually why I wrote my book about the building process…
