Community Highlights: Meet Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Evarts.

Hi Lauryn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started The Skinny Confidential when I was in college, broke, bartending & teaching Pure Barre. When I started college, I went to join a sorority but the fees were so outrageous, there was no way I was going to pay that. I saw a huge white space online & that’s where the idea to build an online community came from.

Women all over the world came together to share their tips & tricks for fitness, beauty, skincare & lifestyle on The Skinny Confidential. It was important that The Skinny Confidential wasn’t about ‘my’ tips- I wanted to know what workouts the girls in Sweden were doing, how the women in France were drinking cocktails, the secret tea that Chinese women swear by. It was and is a place where like-minded women can come together, find value, & connect.

Although it is a lifestyle blog where we talk about everything from recipes to boob jobs to home decor, the community over the years has mainly been interested in skincare so it’s a huge focus of the blog and The Skinny Confidential product line now.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are struggles every day. I think you have to have the struggles to refine what you want your brand to be. Whenever I struggle, I gain clarity in another area. I had struggles learning how to delegate, being in a team, managing my time, and just going to a solopreneur to an entrepreneur.

What’s worked for me is refining where my focus is. Tony Robbins said: where focus goes energy flows. Now I’m very strategic and thoughtful about what I say yes to. Now that I have a daughter, two dogs and a husband, it’s a different chapter than bartending and having no responsibility. I’m game for struggle. It’s part of the business. Every day there is a fire to be put out and I just try to really learn from the struggles and pivot and adjust accordingly.

Moving on quick helps too. Don’t give the struggle too much energy or get caught up in it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Skinny Confidential was started 13 years ago. I launched it with the intention of building a brand. It started with a blog (the mothership) and has turned into a YouTube channel, product line, podcast and two books.

Overall, it’s a community. It’s a community-driven place and that’s always the message behind the brand and products. For members of The Skinny Confidential community, I’ve always tried to weed through all the bullshit to find the best of the best for them. From tumblers to the best coffee, to the best skincare and beauty products to the best candles.

On the podcast, we’ve had sex experts, conversations about death and child trafficking, adoption – my brand is like a bag of Chex Mix, you never know what you’ll get. And it’s all in an effort to save the audience time.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The Skinny Confidential has started a product line that focuses on preventative beauty. So many products out there were focusing on fixing the problem but I wanted to create things that help women (and men!) prevent aging in the first place. We currently have THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL HOT MESS ICE ROLLER which smoothes, soothes & depuffs instantly, & THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL ICE QUEEN FACE OIL which is super hydrating and packed with antioxidants.

Pricing:

  • THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL HOT MESS ICE ROLLER – $69
  • THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL ICE QUEEN FACE OIL – $46
  • GET THE F*CK OUT OF THE SUN BOOK – $24.99
