Community Highlights: Meet Lenora Scott of Scott Real Estate Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenora Scott.

Hi Lenora, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Second Grade Teacher by trade. I worked in a socio-economically disadvantaged school & area for a decade. Here is where I saw a need for safe, affordable housing. My student’s families were struggling and suffering to make ends meet, not to mention living in neighborhoods plagued by violence. During this time, my father suffered leg amputations due to complications with diabetes. I took time off from teaching to care for him. I needed a more flexible schedule in order to continue my father’s care, so I got into real estate. I have a passion for education and helping others. I want to see families own homes in their communities, homes that they can affordable and that are in safe neighborhoods. I started and continue to help single mothers and low to moderate-income families achieve their goal of home ownership. My team and I assist with credit repair counseling, down payment assistance, lender consultations and home buying classes. We want to help as many families as we can. I recently got my Brokers license and started my own company. I plan to further my vision of helping families own homes, build equity and pass down property to their children.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been easy but there are always giants in the promised land! My motto is I am well able to take the land. Financial challenges of clients affect transactions and cause some families to delay or postpone purchasing or selling properties. Credit challenges is another struggle that tends to affect business. I’m accustomed to working long hours and dealing with stress. You must have effective time management and dedicate a lot of time to marketing. I’ve learned how to handle complex clients and complex circumstances. Out of all the obstacles that I’ve become accustomed to navigating, I can’t say that I would change my profession. I love what I do, and that passion illuminates through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Scott Real Estate Group Inc. in a local family-oriented business. I specialize in residential homes. Many families who come to me are first-time home buyers. We make the home buying process and easy and streamlined as possible. We help families with the home buying the process from start to closing. We assist them with every area of the transaction, from down payment assistance, credit repair, lender credits, closing cost roll-ins, contracts, inspections, repairs, etc. Whatever clients need to purchase their home, we are able to help! Majority of our business is word of mouth referrals. We pride ourselves greatly on customer satisfaction!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Leaving teaching was a big risk, education was all I had known career-wise. Launching into a real career, where your where income is based solely on commission is a huge leap of faith. Building a business by faith and taking it one day at a time is a risk. I don’t see myself personally as a risk taker because I prefer to stick to what I know. But I like to pursue my dreams and goals. And if that requires being taken out of my comfort zone, than I’m all for it, After having built a business in Houston, then relocating and starting afresh in Georgetown is a risk. A risk that I welcome with open arms. If a risk can be more beneficial than not. I say launch out into the water; all you can do is sink or swim!
