Community Highlights: Meet Leo Le of ROLLIE ROLLS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leo Le.

Hi Leo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always wanted to open a small business of my own. Coming from Massachusetts to Texas was certainly a big change. It was hard looking for a good paying job compared to when I left Massachusetts and I knew I’d rather work for myself. Rolled ice cream was a popular trend of making ice cream in the United States around this time. The style originated in Thailand by a single street vendor before it bloomed internationally.

Texas weather is almost always great weather for some type of cold dessert, so in 2018, I thought of opening a rolled ice cream and boba shop. With the help of my wife, research, and practice… we started the idea of Rollie Rolls. Rollie Rolls finally opened on August 5th, 2019.

As Rollie Rolls was beginning to gain some momentum, the pandemic shut down happened. We then re-opened in June 2020, hoping to retain the business. We were able to survive thanks to loyal customers that returned to continue to show us support, and of course a great community of new customers. Shortly after, we decided to add a variety of items to our menu, such as Hong Kong waffle puffs, diverse international snacks, instant ramen, and more. I would not be surprised if we continued to add more diverse items. Hopefully one day, multiple locations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course it was not a smooth road. We had a lot of trial and error, the pandemic, and a constant upkeep with new fun trends.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ROLLIE ROLLS?
We strive to be one of the top rolled ice cream shops in Austin, Texas and it’s surrounding cities. We try to perfect our service, products, and create our own style. We believe we are known to provide a wow factor when our customers come into Rollie Rolls. When coming in, they do not expect to see what they see compared to other ice cream shops.

We have snacks, ramen, soda, pre-rolled ice cream for customers to grab and go, a large menu with variety of items, and more. It’s like an Asian convenient store. Every person on our team puts a lot of love and effort into making our customers’ order(s) a delicious one.

We are proud to see our customers always coming back and new faces trying out Rollie Rolls. It shows that we are doing something right and gives us the motivation to keep Rollie Rolls going.

We want readers to know that Rollie Rolls is not just a rolled ice cream and boba shop, it’s a place where you can feel safe, have fun, and make it a sweet memory.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was sitting at home, hearing the music of an ice cream truck gradually getting louder in my ears. I would shout, “The ice cream truck!”. I’d run out once the music was right there, loud and clear. I would always rush to make it in time before they continue to other streets.

The ice cream truck(s) would not only have a large selection of ice cream, but they had candy, chips, hot dogs, and other snacks! Hence, kind of like Rollie Rolls – maybe one day on wheels too!
