Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Diaz.
Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my design firm on the side taking on two clients per year with custom residential new builds. Over the years, my business has grown organically through word-of-mouth referrals and referral partners within the industry. The business has steadily grown that it is now my full-time job. My design firm continues to grow and I continue to diversify our portfolio through various projects around Austin.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles in growing a business is learning which projects and clients to take on in order to grow and develop the business. Where to invest time, energy and money has taken time to figure out in each step of building my company. Also, this is an industry with a lot of nuances and figuring out all of the information or who to go for the information has also been a learning lesson along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nuela Designs is an interior design firm located in Austin, Texas. We specialize in residential custom new builds, full gut remodels and furniture and styling services. Nuela Designs is also expanding into small boutique commercial projects. We customize each space we design to every client and want it to be a space that is inviting and functional. Our aesthetic is updated modern with classical details mixed in. We have a nice sweet spot without being too traditional or overly contemporary. Our growing portfolio displays a range of styles but all with a common thread-modern, classical, chic. The majority of our projects start with a neutral base and we layer in color or texture-sometimes both! We also primarily focus on full room design as that is the way to have the most impact on a space. What sets us apart is our involvement on the construction side of the projects. We hold meetings, participate in site walks and are available during the duration of a build. We think it’s important to stay connected to the project the entire time.
What makes you happy?
Traveling! I love to travel and have been traveling since I was young. It’s so inspiring to go to new places, learn about other cultures, see the architecture and taste the food. Anytime I am traveling, I will always seek out local artisan shops.
