Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan and Frank Lin.
Hi Megan and Frank, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My partner Frank and I met in grad school and we started our careers together in Los Angeles. After having our first child we moved to Austin and did a remodel on our first home. We had so much interest in the remodel that we decided to quit our LA jobs and started our own business coXist Studio. Starting over in a new city with a young family was challenging since we didn’t know anyone at the time, but we worked hard and took every job we could get to get our foot in the door. Our business has taken off in the past few years. We went from remodels to mostly new construction. It took us countless hours of work to get us to where we are today but it’s great to say that we built our company from scratch.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been smooth and still is not always smooth. As you grow new challenges arise and that will never change when you run a small business. It’s how you choose to tackle the challenges that you are given that really matter. When we first started we had only a few clients and we struggled to get our name out there while still having time to take care of a young family. We were often working early morning and late nights where sleep was a luxury. It took a few amazing clients to give a chance on us to really get us going, and for that we are forever grateful to them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
CoXist is a contemporary Austin-based architecture firm dedicated to making an impact on our client’s way of living through thoughtful and human-inspired design. CoXist was formed on the principle that the best design is one that reflects the human experience through memory, sense of place, and engaging all five senses. These elements distinguish timeless design from transitory trends.
An essential part of our process is to enhance the connections between life and living. While we believe in innovative design concepts, at the end of the day, good design is rooted in how one functions in their space.
Through collaboration with our clients, team, contractors, and consultants, we strive to make our clients’ lives easier by designing a livable space to call home; a place to make long-lasting memories. We believe that what we do now shapes the fabric of the future. We are dedicated to designing for communities and generations to come; to creating spaces that coexist with their surroundings.
We focus on residential design and we offer not just architecture but also interior design services.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Austin is a big little town. We love the community here and how people truly care about each other. This City feels like home whether you live here or not. With the growth of Austin, we hope that this sense of community does not disappear, It’s a catch 22, while we love the growth if it’s not done is a thoughtful way it turns Austin into something that is unaffordable and overcrowded.
