Community Highlights: Meet Michelle Young of My Vinyasa Practice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Young.

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Six years ago, I started leading yoga teacher training online and out of my garage in North West Austin. I was teaching at several studios at the time and completing my Yoga Therapy certification. The Austin training grew and before we knew it, we outgrew my garage studio. I started looking for the perfect location for a yoga studio where I could offer donation-based yoga classes and lead advanced yoga training. At the time, Highland Mall was being converted into the new ACC Highland Campus, and to my surprise, they didn’t have a yoga studio secured for their retail space. In 2019 I signed the lease for our brick and mortar location, and we started the buildout a year later. The pandemic hit in the middle of our buildout, and although our dream of opening the studio looked stifled, our online offerings took off. During the pandemic, our online operations grew beyond our wildest dreams, and it ultimately gave us the ability to create jobs and offer free outdoor yoga daily for a year. Currently, we have 45,000 users online, a thriving in-person studio community, and corporate relationships with the University of Texas, Ascension Healthcare, and several other clinical facilities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The experience hasn’t been without its ups and downs, challenges, and growth opportunities. The biggest obstacle has been the pandemic, and at the same time, it gave us the gift of humility and grace. ACC’s Highland Campus and the surrounding apartments will eventually see tens of thousands of students, faculty, and staff daily, so to start this journey without a thriving population gave us the opportunity to remember that the services we are offering are not a reflection of who we are, but rather are an expression of unconditional love and compassion for the students we serve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about My Vinyasa Practice?
