Community Highlights: Meet Nacho Loza of Dash Away Hauling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nacho Loza

Nacho, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised by a single mom and grew up BMXing. I got my first job at 14, I started working as a welder. From there, I took on different jobs, including assembling bike racks, working at a local bike shop putting together bikes during the Summer, working at FedEx Kinko’s in customer service and graphic design, and eventually moving into sales and service at Samy’s Camera, where I was the lead certified Apple technician, head of Apple purchasing, and handling Apple repairs of five stores for 11 years.

In 2012, I was involved in a motocross accident that nearly resulted in my foot being amputated at the ankle. It was a tough experience, but I recovered and kept moving forward.

In 2019, I joined the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, first as an SST, where I assisted deputies with various tasks. There was an opening in the Crime Scene unit, I applied to the position and was later promoted to a CSI Technician. I processed crime scenes, collected and analyzed evidence in the field and in a lab, worked on fingerprinting, blood spatter analysis, DNA, photographed and videoed crime scenes / autopsies and conducting written reports. During my time there, I was recognized as Employee of the Quarter and received an accommodation for solving an attempted homicide.

After working in law enforcement for a few years, I decided to make a change. My wife (whom I met in High School, and now have 3 amazing children with) and I moved to Texas, where I started Dash Away Hauling, a junk removal and dumpster rental business. It was a shift from my previous work, but I’ve always been hands-on, and I liked the idea of running my own business. Now, we provide junk removal and dumpster rental services to homes and businesses around the Austin area.

One of my favorite parts of this job is talking with people and learning their stories. Every job is different, and every customer has a reason for needing our help. It’s more than just hauling junk—it’s about helping people move forward, and I enjoy being a part of that process.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—starting and growing Dash Away Hauling has come with its fair share of challenges. The biggest hurdle has been getting the business off the ground without a huge budget for advertising. Competing with big-name franchises that have deep pockets for marketing has made it tough to stand out, but we’ve focused on word-of-mouth, fair pricing, and top-notch customer service to build our reputation.

Another challenge has been balancing the workload. Since it’s just my wife and I running the business, I handle all the physical labor while she manages the business operations. Some days, it feels like there’s not enough time in the day to do it all, but we make it work.

Weather has also played a role—Texas heat can be brutal, especially when hauling heavy junk or working on big clean-outs. Like any business, they have been slow seasons, where jobs don’t come in as steadily, making cash flow unpredictable.

Despite the struggles, it’s been worth it. I enjoy the work, the people I meet, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with helping customers reclaim their space. Every challenge has been a learning experience, and we’ve come a long way since starting out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Dash Away Hauling is a family-run junk removal and dumpster rental business based in Lakeway, Texas, serving the surrounding areas. Company named after our beloved son, my wife and I run it together—she handles the business operations, and I take care of the heavy lifting. We’re available 24/7, offering a hassle-free experience with fair, upfront pricing and no hidden fees.

We officially launched in October 2023, and in a short time, we’ve built a strong reputation for being reliable, affordable, and customer-focused. We specialize in junk removal, dumpster rentals, demolition, and land clearing, handling everything from small residential pickups to large-scale property cleanouts. No job is too big or too small—whether it’s getting rid of a single bulky item, clearing out an entire house, or helping a business manage construction debris, we take care of it.

What sets us apart is our commitment to customer service. We show up on time, communicate clearly, and make the process easy. A lot of junk removal companies focus just on the hauling, but we focus on the people—we know that every job has a story behind it, whether it’s a homeowner needing help after a life transition or a business needing to clear out space. I enjoy talking to customers and hearing their stories, and I take pride in being professional, friendly, and efficient.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built in such a short time. We already have 149+ five-star Google reviews, and our customers appreciate that we’re reliable, fairly priced, and easy to work with. We also take pride in being a local, independent business, offering better service and pricing than the big franchises.

If there’s one thing I want people to know about Dash Away Hauling, it’s that we’re here to help—whether it’s a small pickup or a big cleanout, we make the process stress-free. We’re more than just a junk removal service—we’re a junk removal friend who’s there when you need us.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was the definition of “go big or go home.” If I found something interesting, I wasn’t just dipping my toes in—I was diving headfirst. I was the kid who wanted to learn everything, try everything, and push limits just to see how far I could go. Whether it was riding my bike, building something with my hands, or figuring out how things worked, I was all in.

I had energy for days, never the type to sit still for too long. If I wasn’t outside, I felt like I was wasting time. BMX quickly became my biggest passion. I raced all throughout my childhood, and there was nothing like the rush of hitting a jump, the thrill of speeding past someone on the track, or the satisfaction of nailing a trick after hours of trying. It wasn’t just about racing, though—it was about the friendships, the late nights tuning bikes, the camaraderie of being part of something bigger.

I was also extremely social. I could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a dozen new friends. I loved talking to people, learning their stories, and just being around others. At the end of the day, I think that’s what has always driven me—a mix of curiosity, energy, and a genuine love for people and experiences.
