Community Highlights: Meet Peter Lin of Empowermend LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Lin.

Hi Peter, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I struggled with a tough childhood growing up and have always felt like I was missing something important in life. Wanting more happiness, I started off going down the typical prescribed path: Go to school and college, get good grades, and then find a job. I did exactly that, studying engineering, and then landing a job at a healthcare software company (Epic Systems Corporation). I worked there for 6.5 years.

While the job was great and it paid well, it was stressful at times, and it still felt like I was missing something. Going down the “prescribed path” wasn’t truly feeding my soul, and I knew I would regret things if I didn’t make a change.

I decided to quit my job with nothing lined up, moved into a van, and started to travel the country. My intention was to have a fun adventure, while deeply exploring personal growth and what I wanted in life.

During this adventure I deepened my practices in several wellness modalities, including yoga, meditation, breathwork, communication skills, psychotherapy, and massage therapy. They made a huge difference in the well-being of my life: mentally, emotionally, and physically. This was especially healing after struggling with such a difficult childhood. The practices resonated with me so much that I went on to become certified to teach many of them.

Today, I seek to give back. I seek to share the practices that helped me so much in my life, since I have personally experienced such a powerful transformation from them. I started with teaching/working out of studios, but realized that I could have a wider impact if I also started my own business. The idea was scary, which was another reason to do it, and I knew that I would regret it if I didn’t try. So I did.

While I am still new to being an entrepreneur (and there’s SO much to learn), I finally feel aligned with my purpose. Despite the hardships and uncertainty, it has been deeply rewarding to help others and to give back with practices that made such a drastic difference in my life. I am excited to continue to work hard, to serve where I can, and to see how the story unfolds over the next several years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I did not have experience in so many areas, such as video filming/editing, marketing, and copywriting, just to name a few. And even for the areas that I do have experience (such as teaching a yoga class), I still have so much to learn there.

Beyond the raw learning, there is also so much uncertainty and doubt. For example, I’m still not financially stable – what if I can’t make that happen? Or I often question myself, do I really have what it takes to make this work? What if I don’t?

Like I said earlier, I’m still fairly new, so these are active struggles that I’m currently experiencing. Very little has been resolved yet haha.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer a variety of services, including:
-teaching yoga & meditation classes
-teaching breathwork, sauna, cold plunge, and/or Wim Hof method classes & workshops
-coaching
-massage therapy

The above services are offered both online and in person.

My unique perspective is that I am trained in a variety of wellness practices, as opposed to specializing in just one. I believe that these practices help with “cross-training” for an overall healthier life, which I think is more effective than just targeting one avenue. The wider range of experience also allows me to better connect with people, since I will have a bigger toolkit to help with whatever they need.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
As someone who is still just starting out, I think the biggest thing is to keep going. One of my teachers has told me, the people fail is NOT because they aren’t smart enough, or talented enough, or anything else enough. The only reason that people fail is because they give up. If we continue to keep going, and we learn from everything that we’re doing, then success should be inevitable.
