Today we’d like to introduce you to Raeanne Hogner.
Hi Raeanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up on disposable cameras. Every Friday, I’d pick one up, and that would be my camera for the weekend. That love for documenting life carried into MySpace days and eventually into a little Nikon point-and-shoot that lived in my purse and went everywhere with me.
I graduated from college in 2009 with a Mass Communication degree, and photography was one of the required courses. While a DSLR wasn’t required for the class, I really wanted one, so I talked my dad into buying me my first DSLR. That class became my first true introduction to photography, and I went all in. It was the moment everything clicked for me — learning how a camera actually works and realizing I could turn something I loved into something more.
Right after graduating, I started my first photography business called Two Sisters in a Camera. As my style and vision evolved, I later pivoted to Auburn Rae Photography. I liked the idea of it not being my full name, but still feeling personal and connected to who I am.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started doing photography, I did it in my hometown. I was also doing hair — and I actually still do hair — so I knew a lot of people. I basically talked the same people who trusted me with their hair into letting me take their photos, and it worked out really well. Word of mouth is always the best form of advertisement, and that was truly the case when I was starting out with photography.
In 2015, I decided to move to Austin, and it was a lot trickier here. I didn’t know anybody, and even now, after being here for a little over 10 years, I still feel like I’m gaining traction. I had such a strong base back home, so moving to Austin was definitely a struggle at first. But over time, being here and continuing to put in the work, I’ve slowly built something I’m really proud of.
We’ve been impressed with Auburn Rae Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What should we know? What do you do?
I’m the owner and photographer behind Auburn Rae Photography, based in Austin, Texas. I photograph weddings, couples, families, and portraits with a focus on real connection and honest moments. My approach is very people-centered. I want my clients to feel comfortable, seen, and like themselves in front of the camera.
What do you specialize in / what are you known for?
I’m known for a documentary-style approach with a candid feel, paired with gentle direction when it’s needed. I believe the best galleries are a mix of real, unposed moments and thoughtfully guided portraits. I specialize in weddings and love capturing the in-between moments just as much as the big ones—the emotion, the energy, and the story of the day as it actually unfolds.
What sets you apart from others?
I think what really sets me apart is how I make people feel. A lot of my clients tell me they’re nervous in front of the camera, and by the end they’re relaxed and having fun. I’m very intuitive and read the room well—knowing when to step back and document quietly and when to step in and offer direction. I don’t force moments; I create space for them to happen naturally.
What are you most proud of, brand-wise?
I’m most proud that my brand is built on trust and connection. Many of my clients come from word of mouth, and that means everything to me. I’ve grown Auburn Rae Photography slowly and intentionally, and I’m proud that the work reflects not just how things look, but how they felt. I truly believe all the right people find me.
What do you want readers to know about your brand, offerings, and services?
I want people to know that when they book with me, they’re getting more than just photos—they’re getting someone who genuinely cares about their experience. From the first conversation to the final gallery, I’m very hands-on, communicative, and invested. My goal is always to deliver images that feel timeless, personal, and true to the people in them. I want people to look back at their photos and for it to feel like they are time traveling.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think most people are surprised by my accent. I’m originally from Oklahoma, and even after living in Austin for over 10 years, it definitely followed me here. It’s something people mention almost right away when we start talking. It always makes me laugh, but it also feels like me and a piece of where I am from.
