My name is Ruth, and my journey in hairstyling began when I was in the 10th grade. I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. Even while I was still in high school, I was already working as a hairstylist in one of the top salons in the city. From a young age, I knew this was more than just a hobby — it was my passion.
The more positive feedback I received from clients, the more motivated I became. Seeing how a hairstyle could transform someone’s confidence gave me purpose and energy. After finishing high school, I earned a diploma in electricity, but my heart was still in beauty. I continued learning and practicing because my dream was always to become a professional hairstylist and make a difference through my work.
In 2016, I moved to the United States to pursue greater opportunities. I enrolled at Central Beauty College, where I refined my skills and earned my professional certification. After graduation, I worked at Cost Cutters salon, gaining valuable experience in the American beauty industry.
Later, I stepped away from work for a period to focus on raising my four daughters. Being a mother is one of my greatest blessings and strengths. Today, I am proud to be both a mom and a business owner. I founded Ruth Hair & Beauty, and through my work I strive not only to enhance beauty but also to uplift and support my community.
My journey has been built on passion, resilience, and faith. And I am just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was starting over in a new country. Moving from Ethiopia to the United States meant adjusting to a new culture, a new way of doing business, and building my career from the beginning again. I had to prove myself, learn new standards, and gain experience in the U.S. beauty industry while staying confident in my talent.
Another challenge was balancing my personal life with my professional dreams. As a mother of four daughters, there was a period when I stepped back from work to focus on my family. Returning to the industry after that required patience, discipline, and rebuilding momentum.
Like many small business owners, I also faced the challenge of building consistent clients and growing a brand step by step. But every obstacle strengthened me. It taught me resilience, time management, and how to keep moving forward even when progress felt slow. Today I’m proud that I didn’t give up—those challenges are a big part of why I appreciate my business and my community impact so much.

The most important lesson I’ve learned on my journey is that success is built on consistency, patience, and genuine care for people.
Building Ruth Hair & Beauty taught me that talent alone is not enough. Growth comes from continuous learning, improving your craft, and staying committed even during slow seasons or challenges. Every client interaction matters, and long-term success is built through trust, professionalism, and delivering quality every single time.
I have also learned that listening is just as important as skill. Understanding a client’s needs, lifestyle, and expectations allows me to create results that truly serve them — not just a style, but confidence.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that purpose fuels longevity. When your work is rooted in passion and service, challenges become lessons instead of setbacks. That mindset has shaped both my career and my brand.
