Community Highlights: Meet Savannah Jost of Prep Thyme

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Jost.

Hi Savannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, I always loved cooking and viewed it as a fun outlet for my creativity but never actually considered it as a career. I was raised in a military family and have lived all over the world. My favorite part about traveling has always been exploring new foods. I love cooking for myself equally as much as I love cooking for others.

I’ve changed my career path several times. Initially, I thought I wanted to join the military like my father but then decided that waking up at 6 am everyday wasn’t for me. I still wanted to do something dealing with the military, so I shifted gears and decided to become a veteran social worker. Somewhere along the line, I changed my mind and wanted to work with children instead. I had the opportunity to intern at Child Protective Services and instantly fell in love with the field and the impact I made daily. During this time, I started meal prepping as a hobby for not only myself but family and friends as well. My hobby gained some great traction and that was when I realized that I could turn my passion into an actual career. Once I finished graduate school, I knew I had to make a decision, either utilize my degrees that I spent years pursuing or take a chance and see where Prep Thyme could take me. That was almost three years ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Though my business is in the early stages and still growing, I am so proud of how far I’ve come and progress I’ve made in such a short time. Prep Thyme has so much potential, and I am confident in myself and this self-made business I’ve grown. I’m looking forward to the future and so blessed to have such a supportive customer base.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think many people take having a hometown for granted. When people ask me where I’m from, I never have a real answer because there isn’t one place that I truly feel like is home. Growing up as a military child, you face many of the same challenges as your parents such as very frequent moves, deployments and reintegration. As a child, I struggled with the constant changes and adjustments, however, I’m more than grateful for my upbringing and experiences because they made me into the resilient person I am today.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Prep Thyme’s mission is to provide quality meals that are healthy and affordable to the local community. Affordability is one of my core values because I believe nutritious food should be accessible to everyone. So proud of my daughter. She worked so hard to get her business up and running while earning her MSW. Nothing but success in her future!
