Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Buth.
Hi Shannon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started this company in 2020 after my Mom passed away. It was a big turning point for me, and I always say House of Shan started as a love letter to her. She was my person, and it made me realize how precious this life is. Each day is truly a gift.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing women, men, and children proudly wearing and sharing our Imperfect Heart and spreading this message of love and embracing all of life’s imperfections!
The message is simply a reminder to live your passion, laugh everyday, love deeply, lift others up, and don’t ever quit your daydream.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely not always a smooth road juggling the business and raising 4 kids! We also re-located from Chicago to Austin in 2021 and that was a big change for our family and business. I think we experience a lot of the same ups and downs of any small business owner and entrepreneur, some days its the best thing ever, and other days it feels like the hardest thing in the world! Our pledge to d0nate $5 from every order always helps keep me more on the positive side, and when we send the money at the end of every month to our charity partner it reminds me that its all worth it! We’ve raised over $130,000 for various women and children charities since 2020!
As you know, we’re big fans of House of Shan. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
House of Shan is a clothing and accessories brand based in Austin, Texas. Our signature Imperfect Heart logo inspires people to embrace their imperfections and treat every day as a gift.
Our founder, Shannon Buth, wrote this when she first created the brand: “An Imperfect Heart stitched over your heart as a daily reminder to live with passion, laugh everyday, love deeply, lift others up and don’t ever quit your daydream.” Since day 1, $5 from every purchase has gone to support women’s and children’s charities. With your help we have raised over $130,000 for these great causes!

I think I’m most proud when I have friends reach out when they meet somebody in the airport or on vacation wearing House of Shan hats or sweatshirts! Our brand really focuses on building community and connecting women and when those connections are made it reinforces what this is all about! I also love seeing my boys and their friends rocking the Imperfect Heart, and men too! So many people tell us that they love wearing our clothing because when they put it on it makes them smile and feel good–that’s the biggest compliment we could ever receive!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Well, we started right before the Covid pandemic and then the world seemed to shut down in an instant. Everyone was home on Zoom, and we were selling cozy sweatshirts and donating to first responders and other people affected by the shutdown. I think our message at the time was perfect and really resonated with everyone during a really hard time. We also started to produce masks with our embroidery shop at that time in Chicago (when nobody could get masks!) and we donated all proceeds from those to the frontline workers in all the hospitals in the area.
