Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Mansour.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a student at the University of Michigan, I struggled with weight gain so I started an aerobics TV show to help myself and others get in shape! I studied Psychology, Women’s Studies, and Communications and decided I wanted to help people become healthier and happier on TV. So I worked in TV for a couple of years behind the scenes and then decided to create my own brand and messaging that I could then share on TV. I started “Step It Up with Steph” in 2008 and haven’t looked back since! I honed my skills by becoming certified in personal training, yoga, Pilates, and life coaching. I work privately with weight loss clients who are female CEOs and executives that virtually need a coach to help them reach their weight loss goals. I also appeared on local TV news to give viewers ways to be healthier and ultimately created my TV show “Step It Up with Steph” on PBS. It’s currently in its second season!

Stephanie holds her BA in Communications with an emphasis on Women’s Studies & Psychology from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), her personal training, yoga, and Pilates certifications, as well as her professional life coaching certification. Prior to starting Step It Up with Steph in 2008, she worked for Oprah’s XM Radio show host Marianne Williamson, the Dr. Phil show, Lifetime TV, and WNET PBS.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! When I started “Step It Up with Steph” with no formal business education, all of my business and marketing friends told me it was a dumb name for a business (“step it up” – what does that mean? Step up where? How?) and everyone told me that hot pink (my favorite color and the color of my business) was silly and abrasive! I questioned myself a lot over the years and ultimately began a morning practice of checking in with myself and praying to ensure that I was connected to my purpose, my mission, and my intuition.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Step It Up with Steph?
Everyone asks me who my competition is – and I honestly don’t know! I’m not just a fitness girl or a diet coach; I focus heavily on the mindset and relationship with yourself in order to make and keep habits in your health. Ladies across the country say that my personality and approach to health, weight loss, and fitness is what has liberated them into freedom from diets and rigid plans and has allowed them to actually ENJOY their health journey. For me, health and fitness isn’t one size fits all; we all are our own best experts and while we can benefit from other coaches and experts, ultimately it’s up to us to decide what is best for us. Thanks to women saying that they wish they could have me in their pockets, I created the “Step It Up with Steph” APP that has been blowing up on the internet! Women everywhere are loving the daily challenges that I put in the app, the daily push notifications to remind you to move, the hot pink “S” on their phone to denote the app, and of course the motivational and weight loss videos as well as workouts in the app. I also do private weight loss coaching for executives and have a group coaching program, too.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely. Health is more important now than ever before. Being able to make your home healthier, find the motivation to work out at home, and get a grip on food since we are surrounded by our kitchens 24/7. The media loved having me for virtual interviews to help viewers nationwide get healthier, too.
