Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Frederico.
Hi Stephen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was a biology major at the College of Charleston, I knew I wanted to become a neurosurgeon as this had been my dream for years, but I had very little guidance on how to get to medical school. Without strong premed advising, I had to rely on scattered information from the internet and learn the process largely on my own.
After speaking with medical school classmates who had also gone through similar experiences, I was inspired me to create AdmitMD, a company built to provide the mentorship I wish I had prior to medical school. Our team pairs students with experts who have both served on medical school admissions committees and successfully navigated the process themselves, and are either current medical students or practicing MDs, because those are the people best equipped to guide future physicians. We help students not only with the application itself: personal statements, secondaries, interview prep, etc., but also years in advance, coaching them on how to build the right clinical, research, and service experiences that come together into one cohesive and compelling narrative. That’s often what makes the difference between acceptance and rejection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road in the beginning. Competing against larger firms with big advertising budgets and full marketing teams was tough. But one of the biggest flaws I noticed in many of those companies is that their consultants often aren’t medical students or physicians, and sometimes a single applicant’s file is split among multiple consultants. One person might handle your personal statement, another your interview prep, and another your activities, which fragments your story and weakens your overall narrative.
At AdmitMD, we take the opposite approach: every client works one-on-one with the same consultant throughout the entire process to ensure a cohesive and authentic application. Since our first application season, we’ve earned multiple five-star reviews, helped clients gain acceptance to top medical schools: Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Pitt, Northwestern, NYU, etc. and have continued to grow steadily each year. We also have helped our BS/MD applicants get into top programs as well such as Brown PLME, Pitt GAP, and Case PPSP.
We’ve been impressed with AdmitMD Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At AdmitMD, we guide future physicians through every stage of the medical school admissions journey with personalized, data-driven mentorship from experts who have served on medical school admissions committees themselves and are either practicing physicians or current MD students. Our mission is to provide the kind of authentic, insider guidance that most pre-meds never receive.
AdmitMD was founded by Stephen Frederico, a medical student at the University of Pittsburgh who has served for multiple years on his school’s medical admissions committee and previously worked for two of the largest medical school admissions consulting firms in the country. Drawing from these experiences, Stephen saw firsthand both how competitive the process has become and how impersonal much of the consulting industry can be. He started AdmitMD to offer something different, a firm rooted in authenticity, individualized mentorship, and insider expertise from those who have actually navigated and evaluated the process themselves.
We specialize in competitive analysis, strategic positioning, pre-medical coaching, personal statement development, extracurricular selection, application strategy, and interview preparation, supporting students from their early college years through the moment they’re accepted. Each client works one-on-one with the same consultant throughout the entire process, ensuring that every story remains consistent, genuine, and cohesive.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to accessibility and integrity. We intentionally limit our client load to offer individualized, high-touch support. And for students who may not have the means to afford one-on-one consulting, we’re developing a low-cost online course, anticipated to launch in 2026, that will feature the insider knowledge our team has gained from years of admissions committee service and client success.
Thus far, our clients have earned acceptances to some of the nation’s most competitive medical schools, including Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pittsburgh, Northwestern University, Washington University in St. Louis, Georgetown University, New York University (NYU), the University of Hawaii, Thomas Jefferson University, as well as top BS/MD programs such as: Brown PLME (BS/MD), Case Western Reserve PPSP (BS/MD) and Pitt GAP (BS/MD).
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing our clients come full circle, from feeling completely lost and unsure of where to begin, to opening an acceptance letter from a top medical school. Many of the students we work with start out overwhelmed and doubting themselves, and watching their growth over time is incredibly rewarding. Each acceptance isn’t just a win for them, it represents the future impact they’ll have as physicians, improving lives and contributing to society for decades to come. Knowing that AdmitMD played even a small role in helping them reach that point is what drives me every day.
