Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Slyter
Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, and joined the U.S. Coast Guard when I was 18 years old. I was shipped off to Alaska, where I did search and Rescue. I then went to station vacation in the Florida Keys, and volunteered as a rescue swimmer and Emergency Medical Technician. After 4 years in the military, I went to school at Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi, where I received my Bachelor’s in History and Master’s degree in Communication. I worked as a graduate assistant, teaching public speaking and started DJing during the electronic music movement in 2010. I moved to Austin Texas after graduating to be closer to my family, and worked at Legalzoom.com. I started in the toughest department at the call center doing collections, and went from the worst sales representative to one of thier best. I got two promotions, became the employee of the month, became the Legalzoom DJ hosting the monthly sales parties, and taught business law to the incoming sales reps. After 3 years of working at Legalzoom, the best thing in my life happened………I got fired. It gave me the courage to go fully into the wedding business, and to try DJing full time. I gained valuable experience working for 3 other wedding companies before I started Full Scope Entertainment in 2017. It quickly rose to one of the highest-rated wedding companies due to our audition process, handpicking some of the best Talent in Austin. We have 85 five-star reviews, DJ for the University of Texas Alumni, are referred by the Austin Wedding Planners Association, and are the in-house DJ package for Casa Blanca, The Grove, Lone Oak Barn, The Oasis, and recommended by many other wedding venues and planners. It’s been an absolute blessing to pursue my dream, and am lucky to have such wonderful Photographers, DJ’s, and photo booth operators.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lol, no it’s not always been smooth. There have been up’s and downs, we are not perfect and in the early years we learned a lot. A key thing is getting feedback from our planners, who are on the front line of our quality control. Luckily, I have a great relationship with many of our planners, and they give us valuable feedback on our staff. We then take that feedback and try to help our staff grow and coach them, always striving for improvement. Additionally, we like to keep a great mid sized staff when it comes to our photographers and DJ’s. This helps keep our quality consistent and helps grow our relationships with our wedding associates.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Full Scope Entertainment?
We are a multi-service, multi-operational event company. We provide DJ, Photography, and Photobooth service. We are also branching into visual artists, LED dancers, and fire spinners. The DJ is absolutely paramount to the event, and can really make or break your party. It is worth it to spend an extra $100 for quality, than to gamble on having a bad party. It’s a huge plus if you can complement it with extras like a photo booth, or some visual entertainment to help spruce up the party. Also it’s fun to add games, trivia or contests, which we can MC at no additional costs. I love brainstorming with our clients, and figuring out how we can help them have a really fun party that everyone will be raving about the day after.
What matters most to you? Why?
I authentically love to make people dance, and am happy to be an expert on music, sound, lighting, and helping someone’s party be badass. There are some Do’s, and Don’ts and I love navigating our clients through what that looks like. There is nothing better than when a dance floor is moving, and you pick the perfect track and transition it so that makes the whole crowd say “Ooooohhhhhhh!’ My dream is to be able to run Full Scope Entertainment and potentially spread to other cities while simultaneously growing my music career as a multi-instrumentalist electronic house producer.
