Hi Sue, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been working for corporate for 8 years as a CPA. After the birth of my son, I realized I need more time to take care of my family and my well being more than just working all the time. The corporate job did not give me flexible time to spend with my family or have more time to take care of myself. I was sick a lot after giving birth as my immune was not good after that. I did not have time to do exercise a lot like before since I got extra busy with a new born and work to do. I got depression in the first 2 months after my son was born. One day, I decided to go have a facial to take care of my skin, feel relax, and forget my busy life a little. I had a hard time to find one that offered short time for facial at affordable price. I found the one that is affordable but I did not get the result I want. I did not feel relax at all. It was an hour long facial, but I actually spent extra time for other steps before and after the facials. From there, I got an idea of opening a spa to offer something different that Austin does not have yet, a shorter facial and affordable price in an inviting space for busy individuals like me. I have passion in beauty industry for a long time but have not had a chance to do it. I wanted to pursue my dream of owning a spa. On a visit to Columbus, Ohio where my in-law lives, I found Oasis Face Bar on the map when I looked for facial near me. I thought that was exactly what I need for myself and for Austin community. It seemed like fate when I found Oasis Face Bar in Columbus, Ohio. There should be a ton of women that are looking for the same thing I look for in Austin, a facial spa like Oasis Face Bar. It is a great concept to bring to Austin. I decided to franchise with them. I want to provide a solution for busy women to have facial more often because time and budget is less than other facials around here. Oasis Face Bar provided a space to bring people to have facial with. The space is open and very inviting. It is good to do a facial party as well. It is for women to get together and pamper themselves and forget about their busy life for a moment. We women deserve to be happy and enjoy ourselves rather than burying in busy work and life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road as the construction took a long time to finish from the beginning. It took about 9 months to get it officially open to the public. Oasis Face Bar has been around for 6 years in Ohio and other North states. Austin marketing is new to Oasis Face Bar. Since it is a new concept, we need the brand awareness. Austin women need to know about Oasis concept. Some people question whether 30-minute facial in an open concept can be relax. It is as our space is big enough and inviting. It promotes social-able experience with estheticians for clients to ask more questions and talk more personally. People actually like the short facial. They have options to extend longer with add-on services. We can be quiet for clients to relax or talkative when clients want. Most of the time, they like to be talkative. For some people, it is a form of relax. They want to talk with someone to release their stress. We are trying to encourage more women to have facial more often because our concept provides the solution. We need more people to know about us.

Cryofacial treatments are priced at $125 for two types: acne and anti-aging. HydraFacial MD® treatments start at $189 for a 40 to 60-minute session. Customers can also get compliments to their HydraFacial MD®, including the Perk™ Eyes and Perk™ Lips add-ons. It also offers membership to save even more for each treatment.
Additionally, clients can customize their experience with $15 – $25 extras like extractions, light peel, dermaplane, LED mask therapy, hydrojelly mask, nano infusion, hair & scalp massage, fire & ice and a facial contouring massage. The facility also provides additional services ranging from a brow wax, brow tint, chin wax, lip wax, lash tint and brow lamination.

Don’t give up. Maintain a positive mindset at all times, and believe in yourself—you are capable of achieving great things. Ignore the negativity from those around you. Stay focused on your goals, and trust in your ability to make it happen.
Something I wish I knew when I was starting out is the importance of networking. I felt lonely when working on something alone, especially when it was something I had never done before. Networking brings people together, helps make connections, fosters mutual support, and provides ideas for developing your own business. I have met some incredible women who have inspired me to keep pushing forward with my business.
